It’s Christmas day and the scrappers working in Wisconsin Central’s Shops Yard locomotive facility at North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, are home with their families enjoying the holiday. In the foreground, torched hoods sit on the ground, and the prime movers, generators and other engineroom components already gone from the locomotives. The job isn’t done yet, but the fate of these three former Soo Line GP30s is sealed as WC Nos. 709, 717 and 718 are not much more than scrap metal on December 25, 1994.

Three Lensbaby photos, blended in Photoshop to create a faux multiple-exposure-like image that appears to be flowers growing out of metal scraps on the ground. The out-of-focus background helps to enhance the focus on the flowers, making them the undeniable center of attention. The combination creates a dreamy, almost ethereal effect with a blurry sense of time passing and a touch of abstraction.

This metal sculpture was created by Dunkeld (Victoria) artist Trevor Flinn and is on my brother's farm in the NSW Riverina. It also features on the cover of Australian singer/songwriter Neil Murray's album, Blood and Longing and is the title of a track on the album. You can listen to it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwfbyUB7GlM The name Byjantic comes from a nearby intermittent waterway, the Byjantic Creek.

This shot was taken many years ago, and I'm planning on revisiting to see if these great sculptures are still there!

Happy Slider Sunday!

There are a number of these Quonset hut things around. Thanks for looking at this one with me. It’s in the river north industrial area of Saint Louis, MO. USA

Driving from Munising to Marquette, we happened upon Lakenenland, an amazing outdoor sculpture garden. All of the sculptures are by the same artist, Thomas Lakenen, and all of the iron sculptures are constructed from scrap metal. Some are quite humorous; some are bitingly satirical. There is no fee to drive or walk through the grounds to observe the over 80 sculptures, but there is a kiosk where donations can be left for the artist.

This colorful piece contains life-sized fantastical figures that are apparently engaged in riotous dance and music in the forest.

While the wives were in the shops in Galena, Illinois, on our recent vacation, my buddy and I took a little tour of the town on our own. And when we walked past this scrap metal place on a back street near the river, I couldn’t resist stepping inside for a few shots. It was dark and dirty inside, but I especially liked the look of the skylight illumination through the grimy ambient air.

M62 265 pulls out snowy tankwagons from BVK (Borsod Chemical Factory) to the station of Sajószentpéter. In the January of 2017 (or longer) this loco was in the area of Miskolc for helping out. In that period it worked mostly on the

line number 92 (Miskolc - Bánréve - Ózd) and made the shuntering tasks in the BVK and pulled the scrapmetal train to Center station. This weather was also brilliant, it was cold and snowy, as it should be in winter time...
