Scrap lead fetches in the UK about £ 1500 per ton (zinc even more). Scrap metal can be stored almost infinitely. You can't do that with the millions of benefit claimants in the UK. The poor might also not wish to sit still when treated like scrap.

A Northshore Mining train is shown crossing Highway 61 at Silver Bay with material that could not be salvaged and made into pellets or sinter feed and is being moved to the Milepost 7 disposal site. This move, called the scrap train, runs infrequently so we were lucky to catch it.

After taking a good look a pyrix, I decided to scrap most of him. The torso was my major problem, and I made it bigger and added more plating. Still working on the arms and lower legs. Thoughts and comments appreciated!

Beaten up Class M62 loco of MÁV-START with race number 210 roaring near Pörböly with a loaded Baja - Dombóvár scrap-iron train.

The 300 meters long ~1500-ton train reaches Dombóvár via the scenic railway line twisting between the hills of Tolna and Baranya counties.

Most of these scrap shipments are heading to Italy and Slovenia. From Dombóvár an electric locomotive takes over towards Gyékényes, the Croatian border station.

A more abstract take.

I like to go dumpster-diving, not so much to pull things out, but to see what's inside, and maybe capture a few photons.
