The Eagle Scout is the highest rank a boy scout can achieve. On January 14, 2012, I had the pleasure of pinning this very special badge of honor onto the uniform of Troop 157's newest Eagle Scout...my son.
This time Frank and Ted Jefferies dressed in their Scout outfits. With the writing against each this was taken in October 1917.

I had the pleasure of attending a dedication ceremony Saturday for a pavilion built to honor Bernard Laugesen – at Shands Scout Camp in “middle of nowhere, Central Florida” – a beautiful, wild, sprawling piece of old Florida forest, lakes and marshes.
My wife works for the Regional (Northeast Florida) Scout Conference and they asked me to do them the favor of documenting the ceremony with photographs. Crap, they did me the favor of inviting me to enjoy and be inspired by the moving testimonial. I got misty-eyed several times listening to stories about a man I had never met.
Lots of the obligatory Emerson and Biblical quotes. One of my favorite passages from the speakers was a quote from someone’s book – I need to find out the specifics and read the book – he said it was the last paragraph and paraphrased it (and I will paraphrase his paraphrase): {It is relatively easy to make a lot of money in America; it is very difficult to make a difference in America.} The speaker than said, "Bernard Laugesen made a big difference." Many grown men had tears in their eyes after that remark.
The fellows in the photo are the last two living members of the original 9 members of Mr. Laugesen’s troop. Laugesen was just a regular guy, a member of Weirsdale Presbyterian Church, who started a Scout Troop in 1941 (papers signed by FDR in 1942 – Troop 113) and provided service for 60 – 70 years until he passed away about a year ago at 93. Even in a small town they were able to train enough young men to produce about 1 Eagle Scout a year for the past 20 years. And somehow they found the funds to give each of them college scholarships.
I suspect you would have a great deal of trouble finding Weirsdale, FL on the map. Yet money and manpower were found to build a pavilion in Bernhard Laugesen’s honor and several hundred people chose to attend the dedication ceremony on a Saturday.
The other big plus (and I say this in all due respect in case any of my wife's superiors see this) is the fun of seeing grown men wearing Boy Scout Uniforms - especially if they are wearing those shorts with high socks and garters/tassels. It does make me smile.

The SFAMSC Scouting Jamboree start off with a lively and colorful parade to signal the start of a day long slew of fun and educational indoor and outdoor activities. These scouting activities designed to teach them the skills and important values such as teamwork, independence, and respect. Important skills that has many practical applications later in their adult lives.
The Bonfire Yell is one of the highlights of the annual Scouting Camporee. The boy scouts and girl scouts of SFAMSC show off their talents in dance, acting, and singing as they perform their cheers and yells exulting the values of scouting and challenging the other patrols to do better with friendly jabs that help spark healthy competition. To give their very best performance, each patrol dedicate many days to choreograph and practice their yells. This activity helps develop important life skills such as cooperation, teamwork, creativity, and the strength of character to be able to perform publicly. Audiences are usually surprised so see once timid and shy students shine and give it their all in the Bonfire Yell.
