The memorial to the Boy Scouts of America is the only memorial in Washington to commemorate a living cause. It was constructed at no expense to the government. The funds were raised from each Scout unit and each donor signed a scroll that was later placed in the pedestal of the statue.
During the 50th Anniversary Year of Scouting (1959), a proposal was made to establish the memorial on the site of where the first Boy Scount Jamboree in Washington, D.C. was held. Lyndon B. Johnson, who was the Senate majority leader at the time, introduced the measure to the Senate. The memorial was eventually unveiled in a ceremony on November 7, 1964. The statue was accepted for the country by Associate Supreme Court Justice Tom Clark, who noted it was his fiftieth anniversary as an Eagle Scout.
The bronze statue consists of three figures: a Boy Scout, a woman and a man. Each figure symbolizes the idea of the great and noble forces that are an inspiring background of each Scout as he goes about the business of becoming a man and a citizen.
The male figure symbolizes physical, mental and moral fitness, love of country, good citizenship, loyalty, honor, courage and clean living. He carries a helmet, a symbol of masculine attire and a live oak branch, a symbol of peace and of strength.
The female figure symbolizes enlightenment with the light of faith, love of God, high ideals, liberty, justice, freedom, democracy and love of fellow man; symbolizing the spiritual qualities of good citizenship. She holds high the eternal flame of God's Holy Spirit.
The figure of the Boy Scout represents the hopes of all past, present and future scouts around the world and the hopes of every home, church and school that all that is great and noble in the Nation's past and present will continue to live in them and through them in many generations to come.
A small pool in front of the memorial represents the honor of those children who joined the Boy Scouts of America.

To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.
To celebrate being back from vacation and having the dogs back home we decided to have a fire. Scout loves sitting on the picnic table and watching what everyone is doing. Have a great week everyone!
The Scout in Penn Valley Park overlooking Kansas City, MO. A ten foot tall bronze sculpture of a Sioux Indian by Cyrus Dallin, installed in 1921 and dedicated in 1922. One of the most famous of Kansas City's many sculptures and fountains. Captured with my Cambo 4x5 view camera, with a 210mm Caltar lens on HP5+. Developed with 510 Pyro 1:100, 68 degs @ 6.5 mins. 5 inversions at the beginning and let it stand for the remaining time. This is the first time I've used 510 Pyro and I'm intrigued with the possibilities.

Scouts Europe is an international federation of independent Scout and Guide associations, founded in 1956. It brings together national movements across Europe and beyond, many of which follow more traditional scouting methods rooted in Baden-Powell’s original principles: outdoor skills, self-reliance, service, and camaraderie.
While not part of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), Scouts Europe maintains its own international camps, training programmes, and exchanges — making appearances like this at Highland Games a natural fit, blending youth, heritage, and physical endeavour in a very Scottish setting.

One, in the absence of frogs, tried to find SOMETHING that he could lick. Unfortunately he chose to try to lick a scorpion...

Poor bloke won't be able to lick frogs for weeks...
Te final Lenfel scout tried to find something to overcome his homesickness by hugging a tree. Unfortunately for him, there aren't that many in Loreos. He then decided he had to hug something green, so, well, you get the picture...

We took Monday off so we could go for a little hike with 2 of the dogs. Scout got to go with. She had a great time. Have a great week everyone!
Another day, another story about the wolf. I'm pretty fed up about the whole thing by now, but that doesn't help. A hunter in the forest here at Ormsta got scared when the wolf came too close. He had to call in his friends and the four of them then walked away from the area with the wolf following them closely. There's a Facebook group listing all wolf observations and a lot of people seems really scared of the animal. One local politician has said publicly that she wants the wolf to be put down. So far it has killed a few lambs and one cat. I have told my cat to be careful when she's out and about but she didn't seem too worried. The wolf in question is equipped with a GPS device and every 72 hours it sends info back to Norway. Some people now say that there's in fact two wolfs running around eager to kill and eat their babies, but I'm not convinced about that yet. But I did see a report over the weekend that the wolf had been spotted near a farm with cattle and that it had closed in on the cows.
So here’s pic of my Skipper boy I’m nicknaming Scout with his sculpted hair painted and sanded and stuff. His hair sculpt was heavily based on vintage Allan’s though it’s not perfect in reproducing it.
But hey, Scout can sort of fit in with my vintage collection now lol.
Collies. They really are the Boy Scouts of the dog world. Here, he very patiently waits for Owlet, one of my favorites, to drink from *his bowl*.
Note the container of water especially for the chickens *right there*.
