Recently we took a two-hour drive to the center of Michigan's upper peninsula to visit Seney National Wildlife Refuge. It was a rather overcast day but that meant for fewer visitors at the already little-visited location. The 7-mile loop road through the refuge leads past scores of these ponds. The sky was an added bonus.

As I was driving home from work on I-75 Wednesday afternoon I had the radio on and heard Q542 calling signals and thought the conductor was saying 'lead engine CSX 852'. I was just going to continue on home but took the next exit to the tracks anyways telling myself, 'why not, its a nice day'. Not long after I got to the Etowah River did Q542 come around the curve with the CSX #8052 leading. Score!

After catching the quad on the approach to Towrang, I jumped in the car and headed for the other side to try my luck. With a comfortable 30 seconds to spare to set up, the impressive lash up of CLF2, CLF3, 48s34 and CLP9 head past the poplars on the approach to Carrick away from Towrang, moving north toward the cloud bank with 3242 loaded grain from The Rock in the NSW Riverina to Allied Pinnacle at Maldon.
This train was rostered to be triple CLs, however, it was noticed that CLF3 wasn’t powering and the 48 may have been attached during the night to provide assistance.
