Henrietta Scope was an astronomer studying variable stars throughout her career (1928 - 1968). Being a daugther of General Electric CEO, she enjoyed a comfortable life. In 1967 she made a substantial donation to Carengie institution to "optical astronomical observatory facilities in the Southern Hemisphere.". This gift was used for development of the site, including roads, water, and power systems, and for building this telescope.

Someone grassed on Scope, and he got a stern talking to by the organiser of the event. As you can see, she wasn't impressed. I was crying with laughter, it was too funny!

The Scope was operated by ISD members from what I saw. I'm not sure what the prizes were, but it was a sort of marketing idea - people go around taking lots of pictures showing how cool fanfest is to promote it next year. Nice idea really. :)

My husband, Steve, and I were scoping out an engagement shoot location. The couple wants the pictures done at his parents' house on the water. I fell in love with this awesome magnolia tree on the property.

My telescope had barely come out of its case for days, so I was desperate to digiscope something, even if it was on a power line and (like this Himalayan Bulbul) it was a fairly common species. (BTW, that's a serious quiff, isn't it?)

My scope diagram is actually a web application built rapidly using symphony cms. It allows me to edit and add points, to do lists, and goals as the semester moves on. it is organized into three overarching parts which are subdivided into smaller simultaneous movements called prongs. Each prong contains small goals called tasks, and each tasks has it's own to do list. I haven't filled in a lot of the content yet (it can hold a ton) but just click around and see what's up.
