Damson plum trees are everywhere in this park in Newark, Nottinghamshire.

This was taken the other day whilst out walking in Devon and Sconce Park and is just part of a long line of trees that are full of blossom at the moment. In other areas there, the Damsons compete with Hawthorn trees whose blossom is very similar in appearance.

Later in the year, when the purpley/blue Damsons fruits are ripe, they disappear fast as people take them to make jams, wines and chutneys but they’re not really for eating as they have a sharp, tart, sour taste although very juicy.

Just because I like it in B&W. It kind of reminds me of an old, dank castle hallway to the dungeon. San Francisco City Hall.

Bridge across to the Sconce, the Civil War Earthen Fort in Sconce and Devon Park, Newark.

This mostly shaded wall gets some sunlight from a window at the top of the stairs, putting the sconce partly in shade and partly in the light. Makes an interesting shadow, too. The tree, cardinal, and green "stick" are made of opaque glass. And all a bit dusty. Shh…

Sconce and Devon Park, in Newark, Nottinghamshire has a lot of area for walking and exercise but the majority of it is in the open and consequently, when the U.K.sun is shining brightly bringing the temps up to 28C it can get a little hot for those not used to it.

A small proportion of it borders the small River Devon and this are has lots of woodland, giving much needed shade. This shot was taken as you descend the gentle decline from the upper level of the park to the lower level bordering the river. Very nice and attractive in a sunny, hot summer but less so in gloomy, damp and dull seasons!

This bench has to be one of the best benches that I have ever come across in my life.

Carved out of a single piece of massive oak, it provides an excellent resting place when out walking as well as depicting some of the woodland and river animals you can come across including fish, fresh water crayfish, dragonfly, squirrel, owl, swan and goose.

It is found in the riverside walk in Sconce and Devon Park, Newark.

Found on the Queens Sconce Newark on Trent

Tom Mann, of Newark, was 14 when he was hit by a car and killed whilst out training on Farndon Road near here in 2003.

A football and sports pavilion in Sconce and Devon Park has been named after him and a memorial football match has been played in the park for the past 18years. It celebrates youth football and the transition to adult football.

Bit of bling for you my love to brighten up your life and REMEMBER...........

Even as a baby I had twinkalicious tastes. The expanding bracelet was my Great-Aunt's who virtually brought me up. Evidently she used to give me this to play with as a baby and I would hold it in a death grip.

When she died, she left me her jewellery and this was in the box I received and it is my MOST TREASURED piece.

No monetary value but so many lovely memories attached to it.

The bag and the brooch are also from the 60's and they hang from an old metal candle sconce which I just love.

Hotel rooms as photo locations have always held a special allure for me...but I'll tell ya...I'm wrong! They're tricky, VERY tricky to shoot in!

It's probably because, when I was first starting on here, I'd see a few people make such good use of hotel rooms, create excellent compositions from the directional light, the intense shadow.

But me, I'm always finding myself in an over-decorated room, in towns with mediocre sun.

Here was the best shot from that day, when I composed all the pillows and couches and sconces out, just the light and Carré's face...and really, when you're focused on Carré's face, it's very hard to go wrong.

The rest of that room, though? No thanks.

I had done my home office in an Art Deco theme. Sitting in there at my desk, I looked up and the light going through the door shades and falling on a light sconce and the wall, was worth a photo and a little additional input.

This nice art deco movement sconce is part of the Holocaust & Intolerance Museum in downtown ABQ. Love those tinny/elaborate greenish-tone tiles. This is right next door to the El Rey Theatre.
