Scoltand is so under-rated.
Taken on a train during my walking holiday with my dad. Sorry about the appauling quality, it was taken through a train window:)
The oldest house in northern Europe, still standing anyway. This is called Knap of Howar, and is on the island of Papa Westray in the Orkney Islands in the north of Scotland. Free access, once you've reached the island (well worth it for the fresh air and tranquility).
huge icicles hanging down the side of the small gorge by the weir on the River Almond, making famulous natural sculptures
The passing loop at Gorton, between Bridge of Orchy and Rannoch, seen from the northbound sleeper on a drizzly 22 February.
yeah... so the police in Scotland are pretty forgiving of silly Americans taking pictures where they're not supposed to.
Day 112: 22.4.09
So it was quite a nice day when I went into the town today. The sun was out and some blue sky. And with the nice weather came the dreaded people in red coats trying to get money out of you for some unknown charity. I'm sure there's got to be a better way of saying all that. They need a good acronym, preferably some that spells out a rude or humorous word :oD
Anyway I managed to dodge them. The secret is whenever one of them starts moving in your direction take out your phone and pretend to be in talking to someone. Then the shoulder stoop, the face looks dejected and they stop off to try and grab someone else....awesome.
The sun did eventually go away and the wind got a bit chillier and for that I take responsibility. I made the mistake of going down to Costa coffee and getting myself a nice cold refreshing Summer Fruits Frescota. I have come to the conclusion that Frescota must be Italian for over priced Slush Puppy.
After buying that it was looking very dull and....oh wait that could be the reactive lenses so...erm...yeah that might be it.
