Will it ever? I picked up this paperback 'The Corona Book of Science Fiction' on a S/H book stall in a Tesco's a few months ago and the irony of the title struck me. A lot! Who knows when it will end but things are slowly getting better. Just a couple of weeks ago we had a whole day without any deaths in England and Scotland due to the virus.
Satellite Laser and Radio Ranging System:
One of the 1.3 Gigawatt Pulsed Lasers at Hartebeesthoek Radio Astronomy Observatory (HartRAO), tracking a Satellite as it passes overhead.
About this specific Laser Ranging System:
"The system can range to satellites with an orbital altitude of 25 000 km, perform continuous tracking of navigation signals from GLONASS and Global Positioning System satellites, take measurements of current navigation parameters and receive navigation messages transmitted from the satellites." - SARAO News.
Note: This was shortly after dark and what seems to be a bright star above the laser, is in fact the planet Jupiter.
Just for fun - how powerful is 1.3 Gigawatt?
It is more than Doc Brown needed in Back to the Future!
A big thank you to Heystek Grobler from HartRAO for showing me around.

The electric disintegrator was initially successful, but eventually became a vanished business.... Then its fortunes revived with the advent of Star Trek and the teleporter ... it also found some fame with Dr Who's Dalek vapourising guns.

Those were the days when everyone had a home laboratory complete with bunsen burners, dangerous chemicals and high voltage electric supply. In another world if television and WiFi had never arrived we would all still be massively engaged in spare time hobbies.
Nice that the guy has no safety glasses, but smartly dressed in shirt and tie.

In the range since 2012 this is the latest 'Space' version for 2021.
It has been detailed and painted.
Curiosity is a car-sized unmanned rover designed to explore and examine the Gale crater on Mars. Launched on 26 November 2011 from Cape Canaveral, Curiosity touched down on Mars on 6 August 2012 for the start of its two year mission which was subsequently extended indefinitely. Curiosity remains active as of May 2021,
"As we continue our voyage it becomes increasingly apparent that Einstein was wrong. Black holes don't exist. What is apparent is that the further we travel towards the centre of the Universe, or what we perceive to be the centre of the Universe, is that our experience of the Spaceship and ourselves becomes ever more similar to exteriority - Outer Space.
Essentially, there is less difference between ourselves, our craft and that, that lies beyond the craft. Evidently Einstein's theories were more a reflection of the culture of his time, back on Earth, rather than an accurate description of Outer Space. The star gates that we experience are not bound by an essential substance - time, they are timeless. They are illusions, mirages, if you will; all we experience is our perception of Space at great speeds. The idea that because we can comprehend things via mathematics, from the security of the Earth, that mathematics will have any bearing on the reality of Outer Space, now seems a farcical and remote fiction.
I continually hallucinate objects that seem to reflect my basic motivations. However, I retain insight and I am aware that they are hallucinations. The madness is not within the astronauts it is exterior from us, as if our minds and Outer Space have reduced to the same basic substances and operate together, as a whole.
This is not physics, nor is it relativity, this is a coagulation of physical and non-physical substances that cannot exist independently from one another. We fear for our sanity and for our lives. In a sense we cheat death, but time, we must tell you, is not what we expected. Time does not exist, only its passage is evident by proxy. And from this removed trace we assume a concept that is time. Our passage is not altered, it remains measurable and continuous. What has changed is not that we see the Universe in a younger state than it would appear if we were on the Earth, but that we see nothing that resembles a Universe at all.
What is clear is that time is non-existent and Space is impossible to see or sense in any way that is accurate, in terms of what it is, what it appears like, so on, so forth. If and when we land, we may witness our perceptions as much as we witness a new land. And neither may be distinct enough to be able to tell the difference."
Science does correct itself and that's the reason why science is such a glorious thing for our species.

Launched by the Falcon 9 rocket on a mission to the international space station. This was the first manned space flight after several successful trials.
New space suits and a hitech digital interior.
A new age in the history of space flight begins.
You would think this was a still from a SciFi movie but its real and a credit to those who built, designed and financed it.

The reason why us robots have emotions is because humans crave for companionship and we are very good at companionship ... take for example my cousins PaPeRo and QRIO ... their natures are programmed to live with humans, make life fun, entertain, generate human happiness and assist around the house ... actually they are are a tiny bit like me ...
Oh, before I forget, I want to thank MarkedMan for his inspiration today.

Hey there! Sorry Flickr, it has certainly been a while.
But look, here's one of the spreads from the newest issue of Okido magazine (Which you should all go out and buy RIGHT NOW, because it's so much fun and full of awesome information!)
I had a lot of fun making this. I mean, come on! It was a brief based around space. Who wouldn't love that?

Today's word is Red Queen hypothesis, which was proposed by biologist Leigh Van Valen (1935-2010).
In Lewis Carroll's "Through the Looking-Glass" the Red Queen tells Alice: "Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place." Evolutionary biologist Leigh Van Valen used that as a metaphor to describe how competing species must keep up with one another. For example, in a predator and prey relationship, if the prey evolves to run faster, the predator must keep up or go extinct.

The Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), founded and produced by Society for Science, is the world’s largest international high school science competition, providing an annual opportunity for nearly 2,000 students from all over the world to showcase their independent research and compete for approximately $5 million in prizes
In 2019, Regeneron became the title sponsor of ISEF to help reward and celebrate the best and brightest young minds globally and encourage them to pursue careers in STEM as a way to positively impact the world.
Alumni of Regeneron ISEF have gone on to have world-changing careers in science and engineering and earn some of the most esteemed honors, including National Medal of Science recipients, MacArthur Foundation Fellows, National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Engineering Inductees and a range of entrepreneurs.
Founded by the belief that advances in science are key to solving global challenges, Regeneron ISEF works to support and invest in young scientists who are generating ideas and acting as catalysts for the change needed to improve the well-being of all people and the planet.
