pseudo-cosplay photoshoot wearing science blues... don't bug me about accuracy, i know every inaccuracy involved in this shoot. twas just for fun.

The height of several humans.

While crunching through dry leaves and waiting for the results from "finch cam" my 5 year old daughter grabbed the biggest dry brown leaf she could find, and declared that she was going inside to find a magnifying glass so she could set it on fire.

Didn't do a superb job of capturing all this fun, mainly because I was also trying to keep her from setting her own hair on fire. Most of the pictures with her in them didn't show the magnifying glass very clearly, so I combined two shots to try to tell the story better.

Dreyfuss + Blackford Architecture’s design for the Powerhouse Science Center re-envisions a historic riverfront structure as a hub for science education, exploration and promotion in the City of Sacramento. On the banks of the Sacramento River, the Science Center grows out from an abandoned power station building. As a principal component of the Riverfront activation, the Powerhouse Science Center anchors Robert T. Matsui Waterfront Park and borders the southern terminus of the 32-mile American River Bike Trail.

Vacant for over half a century, the structure undergoes a complete historic rehabilitation and the construction of a new floor level inside. A new two-story addition projects from the east side, containing a lobby, classrooms, offices and a cafe. A 110-seat planetarium is prominently on display with a zinc-clad hemispheric dome rising above the building’s mass. As representation of our place in the universe, the facade and building mass is sectioned by multiple planes, creating continuous vector lines that extend across the building and site. From satellites to world landmarks, the lines form connections with local and global points of interest.

The original PG&E Power Station B was designed in 1912 in the Beaux Arts Style by architect Willis Polk and was formally closed in 1954. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, California Register of Historic Places and the Sacramento Register of Historic & Cultural Resources. The Powerhouse Science Center is designed to achieve a USGBC LEED Rating of Silver.

Tags are issued to anglers and when they catch, tag and release a fish, the details are recorded on a tag card with the corresponding tag number and returned to NSW Department of Primary Industries in Sydney.

On recapture the catch information is linked to the original tag and compared. A recapture certificate is also issued. From the information migratory habits are observed; growth patterns monitored and scientists study the structure of fish stocks in general.

Artist Nino “Tsel One” Rodriguez, based out of Chicago, works on an interpretive mural for the University of Missouri - St. Louis Psychological Science Department. The mural, located on the third floor of Stadler Hall, is packed with symbols and representations of the department’s various disciplines. The department is also mourning the loss of their colleague, Dr. Bettina Casad. She (and her work) is represented in many places in the mural: by the EQUITY branches of the tree (due to her major work related to equity in STEM), by the bench with a dog (she was active in the rescue dog movement), and by the book with her initials and glasses nearby.
