After the last few weeks of worry regarding my Mum's health I thought our troubles were behind us so the last thing I expected was a frantic call from her at 06.30 saying that she had intense pain in her hip and could not move. After an early morning call from her GP he decided that she ought to go to hospital. He wrote a referral letter and called an ambulance there and then. A few hours later it was confirmed that she had broken her hip and would need an urgent partial hip replacement operation. After a discussion with a specialist doctor he confirmed that it was likely that her hip cracked 8 weeks ago when she had a fall due to her recent bout of Sciatica. Apparently the break can become compacted and not cause a problem until much later when suddenly the bones "let go". They plan the operation for tomorrow.
This image was taken as I sat by her bed awaiting a visit from the Specialist, the refraction of the straw as it entered the water reminded me of the x-ray scan I was shown of her broken hip.
Tom totally surprised me on Sunday afternoon with a room full of flowers, candles and champagne. And of course the long awaited actual engagement ring.
It was wonderful and lovely and special and especially so because he is suffering through some bad sciatica and managed to do this even though he can't walk.
