Herb Robert - Geranium robertianum

Herb robert is a native member of the hardy geranium family. It is found growing throughout the British Isles and favours shaded habitats such as woods, hedgerows, banks, coastal shingle and rocky places. It is shallow rooted and the pink flowers, although self-pollinated are visited by hoverflies. It can be allowed to grow to brighten shady areas.

It is common and widespread throughout Britain and Ireland, often growing in the shade of woodland edges, next to walls and in other darker spots. When it grows in rocky, sunny sites the sunshine turns its stems a crimson red.

Herb-robert was traditionally used as an antiseptic, as well as to treat stomach upset and nosebleeds.

Its leaves are edible and used by some to make tea. They have also been used crushed and rubbed on the skin as an insect repellent, exuding a pungent smell.

Herb Robert is plant with an unpleasant odour, so it is sometimes called "Stinky Bob." The leaves, stems, and flowers are used to make medicine.

Herb Robert was traditionally carried to bring good luck and for fertility.

Herb Robert is thought to have gained its name from an ancient association with Robin Goodfellow, a house goblin from English folklore also known as Puck. However others think it was named after an 11th-century monk who cured many people using the plant.

Herb Robert is used for diarrhea, to improve functioning of the liver and gallbladder, to reduce swelling (inflammation) of the kidney, bladder, and gallbladder, and to prevent the formation of stones in the kidney, bladder, or gallbladder. It is also used for "the flu", headaches, diabetes, sinus problems, arthritis, sciatica, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and cancer.

Some people use Herb Robert as a mouthwash or gargle. The fresh leaves are chewed to relieve sore mouth and throat. It is also applied to the skin for mosquito bites, parasites, herpes, arthritis, and sciatica.

An extract of Herb Robert may slow the proliferation of bacteria and viruses.

No matter whether you play sport professionally or you are member of a social club, you should have regular chiropractic treatment.

Cricket and similar sports require quick bursts of energy. This can cause hamstring pulls, neck pain, back strains, and rotator cuff injuries. Many studies have shown that chiropractors can help prevent lower limb injuries while boosting muscle strength. A chiropractor Edinburgh can also help athletes suffering from tennis elbow. They will help to avoid the recurrence of tennis elbow while also rehabilitating the injured arm, promoting healing, and relieving redness and discomfort. Anyone involved in martial arts can also benefit from chiropractic treatment.

What else can an Edinburgh chiropractor assist with? They can help provide relief for anyone suffering from a sports hernia. Chiropractors can also reduce the pain that comes from the recurrent shoulder instability that arises from playing hockey. Other types of full-contact sport include rugby and American football. If you play any of these sports, soreness and stiffness are the norm. It’s important to treat this with chiropractic care to ensure that the stiffness and soreness do not turn into anything worse.

If you play any sport, do not overlook the importance of chiropractic treatment.

First of all , please excuse the unsavoury title.. This is seaweed in the Car Park at Oystermouth Mumbles that was thrown up over the sea wall during last night's high tides and high winds caused by Storm Emma. I've never seen so much in my life all over the prom. Once again not the kind of day to go out in due to the high winds and cold temperatures but having been indoors for several days, a brisk walk was a 'needs must' . This is because a spinal MRI for acute sciatica last year threw up a slipped and bulging disc. The Spinal Surgeon at the time told me I must walk as much as I can each day to ease the pain and prevent my back from seizing up. People who know me well might see the irony here, but all I'll say that it does work and I'll most likely sleep well tonight after my attempts to walk in and against such high winds.

Often called pseudo-sciatica and misdiagnosed as nerve pain from a Low Back Pain disc bulge, piriformis syndrome is a condition causing pain in your hips, hamstring and buttocks. Pain in your hips, buttocks or leg can be limiting and frustrating. Piriformis syndrome is a common condition that can cause pain in your buttocks, hips and hamstrings and is often misdiagnosed.

Sad to hear that ex Colleague Nick Bartlett has had to be taken off driving duties at Bomo due to Sciatica. A career Railwayman and extremely knowledgeable, i hope he will find another job within the Railway. Given the current climate within the privitised railway and some of the shitbag managers in charge of Traincrew and clerical staff i fully expect Nick to take the option of being medically retired and he deserves it. All the best Nick

I'll give you guys a second image tonight. I have done quite a bit of scanning over these past two days, and my "to edit" folder, which at one time I was proud to keep under 200 images circulating, has ballooned up to almost 500. Those represent just the negatives I thought worth the time to scan, which means images I intend to post at some point. So yeah, I have been busy. :-) And in fact, instead of sitting down and editing any more, I am going to go out and make some more photographs. Besides, my sciatica is still a bit of an ornery issue, so walking feels good right now.

I found this one out one night while wandering with Erik (thespeak).

This remarkable stone, one of three stones, only one holed, is said to have had many possible functions. It is said to have been a place of sacrifice, where the victim of the sacrifice was dragged through the stone for purification. It is also said to be able to cure children. When the moon was in a certain position the children would be take through the stone. There is also an old custom called crameing, meaning crawling on all four, nine times through the hole in the stone, going against the sun’s course. This is said to be a cure for lumbago, sciatica and other pains in the back. There is also a friendly pixie who inhabits the stone. He can return a changeling baby to its true human form. Visitors may ask the pixie questions by placing two pins in a cross shape in the groove on the top of the stone and interpreting their movements.

Martial Art Acupressure is a healing art that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body's life force to aid healing.

Friday is the day Jools does Yoga, goes swimming and does other chores first thing, while I put the bins out and drink coffee.

Only now I don't have to go to work at seven now, of course.

So, I messed around online, then sat on the patio having filled the feeders up, while Mulder and Scully laid with me until the sun got to warm for them, so they found a large plant to sleep under.

I had a touch of sciatica, but hoped that going out for a stomp to Bonsai Bank would help.

Readers, it didn't.

Anyway, once Jools returned at half nine, and we had a coffee together, I left for the orchid fields. Woods.

A fine day to be out, and traffic was light, out along the A2, then through Bridge, Petham before arriving in Denge Wood.

From Pennypot Lane its about a mile walk through the woods to Bonsai, mostly downhill on the way out, which made for a pleasant walk through the dappled sunlight. Before tackling the final slope up the bank.

You know you have arrived as there were a dozen Lady Orchids either side of the track, usually there is one or two.

Then into the reserve, and while laying down to snap a Lady Orchid, a Duke of Burgundy butterfly landed in snapping range, so I snapped it. So, in five minutes of arriving I had the shot I wanted.

But then there are the Lady Orchids.

Hundreds of Lady Orchids.

The best year there for over a decade I think.

I took lots of shots. Of course.

I walked to the far end of the site, then down and back to the start again. Lady, Early Purple, Fly, White Helleborine, Greater Butterfly all in flower, and Common Spotted close.

Orchid heaven.

And then the long walk back to the car. And did my back and legs complain. Yes, yes they did.

There's not much of a slope up from Bonsai, but I felt it yesterday, I had no choice but to keep going, and made it, of course.

Phew.

I stopped off at the Black Robin for a beer and crisps before going to Covet again to check for the Birds-nest Orchids I know were there as they'd been found.

The beer was good, then the short drive to the parking space, then a stomp in the woods.

They're by the tree with the sapling was the directions given.

I found no BNO, but I did refind the pure white Lady again. Only just beginning to open and looking like a Ghost (but not a Ghost Orchid).

My back was shot, so I walked back to the car, then drove home via Tesco where I bought some bread for dinner and ice cream.

Hazelnut Magnums.

Double Hazelnut Magnums.

Then back home.

We had a Magnum sitting on the patio.

Still better than working.

Supper was Caprese with real aged Balsamic which I had bought in Italy last year, but not best suited for Caprese, as the oil diluted it too much.

Then there was the comedy football evening as Spurs and Man Utd battled to be the 16th and 17th best team in the Prem.

Both lost.

Very funny.
