I love old Scholastic books. I remember how exciting it was to receive the order leaflet in the classroom. I would circle all the book titles I wanted, then, after submitting the order, I would squirm until the day the book boxes arrived and the teacher slit them open so we could her sort them into piles.
Even today, when I see the familiar old-school logo on the spine, my heart still speeds up!

(similar to the version I own, which originally had the AATP school logo/emblem which I removed.)

Blackburne House was originally a private house built in 1788 for John Blackburne, who made his money as a salt refiner and in 1844 became the Blackburne House Girls School. The school was the first high-school in Liverpool for girls and was located in what is now Hope Street. Blackburne House school closed in 1986 and since 1994 the building has been occupied by the Women's Technology & Education Centre.
This badge depicts school crest which comprises of a BH monogram, two Liver Birds and the motto NON NOBIS SOLUM SED TOTI MUNDO NATI (not for ourselves only but for the whole world). Incidentally, this was the same school motto used by the Liverpool Institute High School for Boys (1825-1985).

Imprint: AVENCROFT & WILLIS LIVERPOOL. I believe this should read Ravenscroft & Willis, Liverpool established in 1840 and were an important manufacturer and supplier of academic and club attire such as graduation gowns, crested blazers, school caps, ties, etc. They also advertised themselves as a supplier of “badges to any design at low prices”.
I don't play golf - I have this on my desk left over from our corporate golf day. It has the school logo on the other side.
I had to re-edit the logo by only having the stop sign instead of the one with the actual blade because the actual blade looked a little like the old red children slow crossing warning blade that worded "IF-SAFE STOP THEN-GO" that was offically used from 1975-1996.
& by the way this song is absolutely awesome. Such a shame I can't link to the original video.
I don't even know why I'm even bothering to try & revise. It's not working. I got up late again. Gah. I stayed up rereading Oliver Twist. I've been trying to read that book since the end of November but no luck. I keep forgetting my place after weeks of not looking at it & then having to read chapters all over again. I'm not really a Dickens fan, but as my expertise (as far as a 17 year old can be an expert) is in 19th century literature, not to include Dickens is a bit of a major gap. So I decided to tackle a few more. I hate Great Expectations. I was forced to study it in school. Nurrrgh. I chose Oliver Twist because I realised that I only knew the musical version I used to watch all the time as a kid, & that I had no idea what really happened at the end. That's pretty poor for a literature student.
This morning/afternoon my brother and I walked into town. I've been having a debate with Hannah over how long it takes to walk the road. She says 20 minutes, but everyone else says 25-30minutes. I timed it. It took us 10minutes. It feels much longer. It was beautifully sunny though, so time went quicker =)
We got lunch in town && then we went shopping. Over lunch we started reminiscing about our childhood, and this field we used to play in with our next door neighbours. He asked me why we didn't go anymore, & my immediate reaction was "Because we grew up". I didn't want to say that though, so I settled for "We just stopped playing, I guess". Slightly sad for a moment there.
So then the shops! I needed more rocky road ingredients, & my brother wanted more cereal. We forgot to buy cereal. Then we went to the post office & bought balloons & masks!! (One of them featured here.) Twas fun. I wanted to buy ice lollies but there were a group of chavs outside the shop & my brother was wearing a shirt with our school logo plastered across it & he didn't want to risk it. We've had problems with them before. Well, they leave me alone but my brother & his friends have gotten into fights before.
It got grey as soon as we got home, so we were very lucky. Up until that point it had been beautifully sunny. I meant to start work but that would mean getting up which would mean putting strain on my back. So it's not gonna happen.
Oh & the American has now put this picture on his profile. I hate it. Gah.
I had other plans for today's picture, but my brother's not cooperating and the weather's not so shiny anymore. I didn't really have the mask on properly, & so it's not sitting on my face properly. That's going to annoy me.
Early upload - wonder what'll happen tonight.

Our Lady of Fatima (pron. IPA ['fa.ti.mɐ]) is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary by those who believe that she appeared to three shepherd children at Fátima, Portugal on the 13th day of six consecutive months in 1917, starting on 13 May, the Fatima holiday.
The institute of Clarist Francision Most Blessed Sacrament Sisters (CFMSS), founded by Mother Seraphina Farolfi in 1898 is a Catholic religious society is commited to the following among other goals:
1. The education of the young with a preferential option for the poor, the marginalized or the underprivileged in the slum/interior rural areas.
2. The care of the orphaned/destitute children and lonely old women.
3. The service of the sick especially in the remote regions.
My school "Our Lady of Fatima Convent High School" is one of the many institutes spread across India engaged in service of these goals. The sisters mostly belonging to the southern Indian state of Kerala, bought the small patch of land from the scion of the erstwhile State of Patiala back in the 1960's and for the last more than 40 years have been working tirelesly to provide quality education at an affordable price to the young ones of Patiala.
The logo of the school consists of two crossed arms, the naked one of Jesus Christ and the robed one of St. Augustus. And the motto "Deus Meus Et Omnia" means "My God, My All".
The tail design was done with my wife’s Cricut machine. She was kind enough to help me out with that.
Added some pin striping and Old School logo decal.
Ready for engine install. Receiver and batteries.
Can’t wait to see her flying.

The Academic Gymnasium Graz (Latin Gymnasium Academicum Graecense), founded on November 12, 1573 as Jesuit College, is one of the oldest schools in the German-speaking area, the oldest high school in Styria and after the Academic Gymnasiums in Linz, Vienna and Innsbruck, the fourth oldest of the five Academic High Schools in Austria. The school was installed in the course of the Counter-Reformation in 1573 in Graz as a Latin school, as "facultas linguarum", and high school of the Jesuits and served as a precursor to the newly founded University of Graz on 1 January 1585 (presentation of the Foundation letter on April 14, 1586) ,
The grammar school led from 1776 the name "Imperial Academic High School". Today it bears the name "Academic High School" as honorary title. The school describes itself since 2007 as "school for head, heart and hand".
The official school logo "The Owl on the Pillar" by Hartmut Urban (with handwritten signature: "'Academic' Graz, Austria", see picture) shows a Doric pillar as a symbol of the original classical orientation of the school, as well as the owl as a symbol of wisdom (from Greek mythology), all in a slight imbalance, which could be interpreted in different ways.
In this sense, the Academic Gymnasium Graz sees itself through its current range of services as a combination of education on the one hand in classical-humanist tradition and on the other hand, the needs of the 21st century requirements of general education. A special focus of the school orientation is on the "promotion of talents and interests" (fbi).
History in National Socialism

Commemorative plaque for the victims of the World War 1939 - 1945 and National Socialism (with the font installation by Walter Köstenbauer mounted as part of an in-house celebration commemorating the commemoration year 1938/2018 with the additional text: "AND TO THE VICTIMS OF THE INHUMAN IDEOLOGY OF NATIONAL SOCIALISM")
With the seizure of power of Adolf Hitler, the order collapsed, as in the whole country, in the Gymnasium as well. Director Johann Vogelsang and seven teachers who were not agreeable to the National Socialist rulers were dismissed and the director arrested and taken to a concentration camp. The relieved teachers were replaced by young teachers, who saw their role in the political retraining, not in the spiritual education of the youth, thereby lowering the level of education. The management of the Gymnasium was taken over by Viktor Gölles as "Oberstudiendirektor (head teacher)". A National Socialist curriculum came into force, whereby, for example, the religious education was abolished and a complete reorganization of the valuation of the objects with the "physical education" was made at the top. Foreign languages moved to the end of the ranking. The main task of the German lessons was the education of the national consciousness, pugnacious members of the "leading" nation in the world.
After the dissolution of the Bischöfliches Gymnasium (Episcopalian Gymnasium) Graz by the National Socialists in 1938, most of the former pupils were admitted to the Akademisches Gymnasium Graz, including the later Styrian diocesan bishop Johann Weber. Weber was, like many others of his generation, but already in 1943 after the 6th grade first as air force helper, then drafted to the Wehrmacht and got the completed school leaving examination after the war by decree awarded.
Since all students were drafted immediately after graduation from 1938 to the military service, the school leaving examination was initially brought forward by four months, later the school was even reduced to seven, then reduced to six years. Eventually, even the fifth grade students were hired as air force helpers or to build splinter protection trenches in southern Styria. Accordingly, the number of students steadily decreased due to the war.
Due to several Allied bombing raids on Graz in 1944, especially on 1 November 1944, the school building was severely damaged, especially on the main front - towards Tummel square - a proper instruction was from then on practically impossible.
One of the last victims of the war among the members of the school was headmaster Viktor Gölles, who fell in 1945 in the fight against the advancing Russians in Eastern Styria in 1945. His deputy Wilhelm Bouvier hardly had any school duties left.

Adam and I went back to the high school today. I needed to do something that would inspire me and also get my mind off of Jerry. It worked. I saw Mrs. Lien, maybe even scored a small side photography gig with her. She gave the biggest hug ever. Adam said it looked like she was going to cry. Aw. She always was one of those teachers that nudged me into making me follow my dreams even more. She still has a lot of my art around her desk too, another aw! We also saw Showalter, I dearly missed him. If you've had him you'd get used to his humor and you just need a dose of it now and then. The same humor can be transmitted via email but it isn't the same as being in the same room sometimes.
I feel a little disappointed in myself as I haven't took off in my rocket to "college" but they both seemed to know regardless, I'll be doing "something". Either way, it was way good to go back but seriously uncomfortable in a way, too. I saw Taylor, Ally and Gretchen too. I spotted Cameron but he didn't spot me.

Kinda looks like "DP" instead of "JP" to me, and the colours are even Deadpool's colours so it makes me think of Deadpool 😆

Goodbye Budapest, hello Bangkok. Today starts my new journey living and working in Bangkok.
A few months ago I was interviewed for a podcast about international teaching, and after mentioning some of my creative pursuits over the years, the host asked what I had coming up next. I thought about it for a second and then said, well I could do a 365 project to document my new life in Bangkok...so, here goes nothing?
I arrived in Bangkok today around noon and was greeted by a driver from the school who took me to the hotel the school had booked for me. I'll be here for 5 nights while I hunt for apartments. As per my plan, I hung out by the pool to try to decompress after the busy summer holidays and try to get over jetlag. (I was going to make that my first photo, but my bare feet were prominent in the photo, and, well, this isn't my first go at Flickr 😂)
I've been in a daze all day and feeling all kinds of emotions. Felt a little teary eyed when I saw the driver holding a sign with my new school logo and my name. When I finally ventured out of the hotel for dinner I was just looking around amazed that this is where I'm going to live. I've visited before (this exact neighborhood, in fact) but it hits a little differently when it's about to become your new home. We're not in Europe anymore, Toto. I had dinner at a street food place that's kind of in a garden and not fully on the street - though it does have an open-air kitchen. My first impression of the food was that it was as good as I used to get in New York 😂. My next thought was wondering if this will become a regular place or if I'll look back on this first meal and wonder what I was thinking choosing this place to eat. Time will tell...
Tomorrow I start apartment hunting with the real estate agent at 10:30 am.

when i went with my dad to missouri a few weeks ago, we looked high and low for a very specific kind of st. louis cardinal t-shirt (his favorite team). he wanted the old-school logo - the one with the big bat and two cardinals. but we couldn't find it. so he got a different one instead.
well for his birthday, i went online and found the one he wanted. and he wore it to my house on tuesday. his actual birthday.
you probably can't see it very well, but he's holding a photo of himself around six years old. wearing a cardinals t-shirt. with the same logo.
it was the simplest thing - a t-shirt for goodness sake. but it made him so happy. and therefore, it made me so happy.
it's the littlest things.

School project... I teamed up with another student to create a company that focuses on sustainability, write a mission statement, create an identity and some kind of advertising, poster or otherwise, all in a three hour class period.
Our idea was 9Lives Packaging Co. They focus on creating cool packaging a la Coudal (whose CD and DVD cases can only be described as cool), the idea being if packaging is cool enough you won't want to throw it out and hence will not create litter.
I took 9, L, P, C, and O, abstracted the forms a bit, and came up with this set of logos. They're kind of Apple-ish in their simplicity, but shoot me, I like them.

Beckford Primary School in West Hampstead commissioned Pixie to paint a series of mural panels to turn their school entrance into a more ‘child centred’ environment. A brainstorming session initially took place with the school council…the children had a wealth of ideas which we then translated into these bright and colourful designs.
