Our Schlumbergera, also known as 'Christmas Cactus', wanted to give us a gift: a single flower even at Easter!!! Turin, Italy

Schlumbergera is a small genus of cacti with six species native to the coastal mountains of south-eastern Brazil. Plants grow on trees or rocks in habitats which are generally shady with high humidity.
The genus name was created in 1858 in honour of Frédéric Schlumberger who was well known at that time for his collection of the Cactaceae.

OR the SECRET LIFE of SCHLUMBERGERA…
Fleur de Cactus is also the name of a famous film and play.
Common names for these cacti generally refer to their flowering season.
In the Northern Hemisphere, they are called Christmas cactus, Thanksgiving cactus, crab cactus and holiday cactus.
This very ephemeral flower usually seen around Christmas here, the scientific name is Schlumbergera.
Unopened full of promise.
Botanist Charles Lemaire (1801-1871) gave the name Schlumbergera to this genus in 1858, honouring Frédéric Schlumberger (1823-1893), a French collector of cacti and other succulent plants.

Sinonimi o altri nomi:
Zigocactus truncatus
cacto di natale
Christmas Cactus
Thanksgiving Cactus
Cactus truncatus

FLEUR de CACTUS.
Schlumbergera is a genus of 6 known tree-dwelling cacti from Brazil.
These are the tropical rain forest epiphytes, growing on tree branches where, despite the high rainfall, water drains off quickly so that "dry" conditions prevail much of the time.
They are named after the Frenchman, Frédéric Schlumberger, who was the owner of a famous plant collection.
The stems of Schlumbergera resemble leaf-like pads joined one to the other and the flowers appear from areoles at the tips.
Again I played with lights in the studio, the petals are shiny and silky with light.
Have a super day and thank you, M, (*_*)
