Vale Historic Cemetery was born of the Rural Cemetery Movement, which began in 1831 at Mt. Auburn Cemetery near Boston. Vale Cemetery was dedicated on Oct. 21, 1857. As the afternoon of the first day of my Genealogy Tour of upstate NY approached evening, the shadows are longer. Less than a year ago I visited Vale. The return visit is to find the graves of a second great uncle and his wife. Easily found, they are interred in this large plot along with Gibsons and McQueens. The other family plot at Vale that contains Gilmour ancestors, also has names including Truax, Veeder and Landon. Earlier today I saw Gibsons with the Gilmours at Albany Rural.
