Photos showing the conditions of Bread and Cheese Creek in the Willow Road before our cleanup Scheduled for Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM, All the assistance from volunteers and sponsor is greatly appreciated!
This cleanups and several other re are running in April will be in conjunction with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay’s Annual Project Clean Stream Event.
Our cleanups are part of an ongoing effort clean the entire stream by 2014 in preparation for the War of 1812 Bicentennial Celebration. (Bread and Cheese Creek has been noted as one of the possible highlighted location on the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail) The creek played a rather significant part in the Battle of North Point which took place on September 12, 1814. Both the American and British Troops camped along its banks. It is rumored that the young heroes Daniel Wells (19) and Henry McComas (18) used the stream channel to sneak up on British General Robert Ross killing him with their muskets before being killed in return fire. This important part of our history should not be left the eyesore it currently is.
Remember, there plenty of ways for volunteers to participate. We will need every type of person of every ability level to contribute and assist with the Clean Up. Though it is true we will need people to dig out shopping carts and haul trash to the dumpsters, we can use people to run water, food, tools, and trash bags (both empty and full) to individuals in the creek. People to sort recyclables from the debris removed. People will be needed to work the grills as well as many other less strenuous activities. We are also authorized to sign-off on Community Service and Service Learning Hours for students. The more people we have, the easier the work will be for everyone. Please feel free to pass this information on to other who might be interesting in helping as well. As my grandfather always said, “Many hands makes the work light”. We run our cleanups as a family event with all age groups welcome by developing plenty of ways for volunteers to participate.
You can learn more about us through our website at: www.BreadandCheeseCreek.org become our friend on FaceBook, Google+ or follow us on Twitter and/or join the Clean Break and Cheese Creek Group. You can also see photos of our past cleanups on Flickr and our videos on YouTube. You can also subscribe to out Electronic Newsletter.

My schedule for my senior year of high school, which begins on MONDAY! WOO!
The scheduling people have messed it up though. I was originally signed up for ART (1st semester) and GENETICS (2nd semester) but since CHAMBER ORCHESTRA & GERMAN IV/V are only offered certain periods those classes had to be dropped.
So instead, I was put in MENTORSHIP. Basically, a class to do the schools errands. Um, no, I don't think so. I found out, too, that there is an HONORS ANATOMY class second period (the same time MENTORSHIP will be) so it's going to be quite easy to switch :] I'm happy now.
I also think it would be better if I took HONORS ANATOMY because I am only taking one AP class. I need more HONORS! But then again... MENTORSHIP counts as work/community service hours. I'm in a dilemma!

Social worker Lisa will sometimes schedule informal meet ups in places such as Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline for people using justice services.
The outside meetings begun during lockdown but proved popular so have continued. People using the service can meet with their social workers for supervision in a more therapeutic setting.
The TURN group, organised by Fife Social Work Justice Service, offers support, the opportunity to learn new skills and information about further education. It also tackles social and economic difficulties for men in West Fife who have been in contact with the Justice Service.
Background
TURN men's group is for men in contact with Fife Justice Services. It’s available in West Fife with plans to expand to the Levenmouth area.
The aims of the group involve supporting people to learn and use new skills, promote further education, and tackle social and economic difficulties. The learning is broken down into 8-week module blocks which cover a range of topics including physical health, mental wellbeing, cooking skills, employability, DIY, gardening and creative topics.
This enables participants to develop skills and knowledge which will help lead them into employment opportunities, community involvement and volunteering.
The participants of TURN are extremely grateful for the support they receive and are dedicated to paying that support forward to others.
TURN recently completed a creative module where they scripted and produced a seven-minute video detailing their life struggles and shared advice about making the right choices.
The group plan to share this video with local high schools, with it already being well received by various organisations on Twitter.
Due to the success of the group over the past year and its resilience throughout the pandemic, TURN men's group was nominated for an award by COSLA – the organisation that champions council work - under the category of 'tackling inequalities and improving health'.
TURN men's group was the only nomination from Fife Council to be short-listed.
I was scheduled to go shoot a flower garden today, but as they are known to do, something happened and we need to put it off until tomorrow.
So, I wandered down to the Poulsbo Park on Liberty Bay and I was walking around shooting a whole bunch of photos, more of which I'll upload later on.
One of the people I folloe here, Tim Hetrick, is a tug boat fan, and I saw this little 'tug' and I wanted to get a closer look. Since they were tied up at the Guest Marina, I walked out and asked if it would be alright if I photographed their vessel. The owner was more than happy to oblige, so here are three photos of "BobKat."
BobKat is a RangerTugs R-29, a 29', single engine diesel with sleeping for up to six. The owner told me that there were people who took these along the Inland Waterway, or Intercoastal Waterway all the way from here in middle Puget sound to Alaska! A 29' boat from here to there? Boggled my mind, but I guess it's possible.
Here's the website for RangerTugs! www.rangertugs.com/

Students drove a road track tractor guided by GPS to see first hand how the new technology worked. Special thanks to Brian Lam and Tad Adams (UDCANR 14) for their time in showing students and explaining their role with precision ag at Hoober. Inc. Endorsement of any business or product is not intended.
