What an awesome drive on Hwy 14 through the Bighorn Mountains, much was foggy when we drove through here but the bottom was clear and all very beautiful. Can't wait to drive it again.

A cockatoo is any of the 21 parrot species belonging to the family Cacatuidae, the only family in the superfamily Cacatuoidea. Along with the Psittacoidea (true parrots) and the Strigopoidea (large New Zealand parrots), they make up the order Psittaciformes. The family has a mainly Australasian distribution, ranging from the Philippines and the eastern Indonesian islands of Wallacea to New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Australia. Cockatoos are recognisable by the prominent crests and curved bills. Their plumage is generally less colourful than that of other parrots, being mainly white, grey or black and often with coloured features in the crest, cheeks or tail. On average they are larger than other parrots; however, the cockatiel, the smallest cockatoo species, is a small bird. Cockatoos prefer to eat seeds, tubers, corms, fruit, flowers and insects. They often feed in large flocks, particularly when ground-feeding. Cockatoos are monogamous and nest in tree hollows. Some cockatoo species have been adversely affected by habitat loss, particularly from a shortage of suitable nesting hollows after large mature trees are cleared; conversely, some species have adapted well to human changes and are considered agricultural pests. 9128

. . . Pierce-Stocking is still pretty scenic! Located right next to Lake Michigan in The Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, the waters of the big lake insulate the trees from the colder temperatures, and so they hang on to their leaves just a little bit longer.

A Beautiful weekend Along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon.

Enjoyed a beautiful weekend along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway between the towns of Baker City and Halfway, with beautiful blue skies and amazing views of the Wallowa Mountains along the way including a stop at the Halfway Farmers Market, and some time exploring the town of halfway and surrounding century farms.

The Hells Canyon Scenic Byway is a loop that encircles the Wallowa Mountains, intersecting with Interstate 84 at Baker City and La Grande. During the fall the byway is an ideal route for exploring the regions fall foliage and autumn splendor with some great wildlife viewing opportunities along the way.

The byway is a popular destination for group tours and offers visitors a chance to experience small town Americana in small towns like Halfway, as they explore the rugged and spectacular Northeast Oregon landscape along the way.

Hwy 86 between Baker City and the Hells Canyon Dam at the bottom of the canyon is open year round providing visitors access to the deepest river gorge in North America.

Saxon Switzerland (German: Sächsische Schweiz) is a mountainous climbing area and national park around the Elbe valley south-east of Dresden in Saxony, Germany. Together with the Bohemian Switzerland in the Czech Republic it form the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.

The Elbe Sandstone Mountains lie in the far Southeast of Germany, only 30 kilometres from Dresden, between the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) and the Lusatia Mountains (Lausitzer Bergland). They extend from the town of Pirna across the Czech border to the town of Decin in Bohemia. The German part is known as Saxon Switzerland and covers 368 square kilometres of stunning landscape. During the Cretaceous period, between 1,444 and 66 million years ago, a stretch of sea covered the land where today you will find gorges, mesas and rock towers in abundance. The region was formed when rivers flowing from the peaks of the Ore mountains deposited sediment and seashells as the waters flowed to the sea. Technically speaking the Elbe Sandstone Mountains are not mountains at all. The landscape was formed by erosion, from water and wind, which created the region's distinctive features; sandstone blocks, u-shaped valleys and vertical walls, which descend in several steps and are broken up into spurs and rock towers.

Painted in the livery of her original owner, the former Chesapeake & Ohio Baldwin 2-6-6-2 #1309 sits on the runaround track at the depot in Frostburg, MD, with a short coal train, taking on water and undergoing servicing during a February, 2023 photo shoot on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, organized by Lerro Photography. Although normally pulling tourist trains from Cumberland to Frostburg, this particular operation was intended to recreate the 1309s days hauling coal on the C&0.

The line running past the depot here in Frostburg was historically part of the Cumberland & Pennsylvania Railroad and continued west across a turntable just behind the photographer's position, then through a tunnel under the town of Frostburg, and on west to Piedmont, WV. The track west of here was abandoned in 1954, as the tunnel clearances were deemed too small to support larger, more modern equipment. The turntable is still in place however, and now represents the western terminus of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad.
