The skeletal remains of the timber lighter (dumb barge) "Arthur" used by birds as habitat. The size and sheer presence of this hulk are unmissable (it's much longer than it seems to be here). This dumb (unpowered) barge was owned by the timber importers Bayly’s, formerly on the north side of Hooe Lake, and operated with the aid of their small steam tug Alice. The almost complete framework still exists, though much of the outer planking had already gone or been removed by 1988. - Hooe Lake - Plymouth

Ambassador is an United Kingdom tea clipper built in 1869 (dimensions: 53.5 x 9.54 x 5.82 m). She was a composite clipper, built with wooden planking over an iron skeleton and was W. Lund & Co's first tea clipper. William Walker built Ambassador at Lavender Dry Dock in London.

Though considered a fast ship, Ambassador was said to be "very cranky and overmasted". Her first passage to the UK from Foochow came during the Tea Race of 1870 under Captain Duggan and took 115 days, a mediocre performance; that same year the fastest tea passage, also from Foochow, was made by the clipper Lahloo in just 98 days. Ambassador‍ 's fastest passage between China and England was 108 days, in 1872.

Ambassador has been beached in the Strait of Magellan at Estancia San Gregorio, Chile since 1899. In 1973 Chile declared her a historic monument. But you can imagine, that sooner than later it will disappear. The coming images will show the wreck in 2015, unfortunately it suffered a lot in 15 years.

Shipwreck Ambassador, a 3-mast tea clipper, built 1869, beached at Estancia San Gregorio since 1899 - Strait of Magellan, Patagonia. See detailed description at images before. The difference between the 2 images before (2000) and this image (2015) is obvious....and very sad. The rusty remains to the right belong to the rear part of SS Amadeo, broken away.

The original name of the sugar mill "Noel Fernández" was Senado, like the local village. It's no. 520 of Cuba and has been closed in 2002. The mill had a 2'6" gauge railway system. Only ruins remained.

Welwitschia mirabilis - the living fossil.

Endemic only to the Namib Desert in Namibia and Angola.

Welwitschias can probably live up to 2000 years (this one is certainly at least 500 years old). They live in one of the driest areas in the world. They probably survive thanks to their extensive root system and the fog from the coast (Sceleton Coast) - annual rainfall here is just over 0 mm of precipitation - but there is thick fog almost every morning. This regularly moves far into the desert and supplies not only the Welwitschia plant, but also beetles etc. with vital water.

Joseph Beuys in an interview:

"This is a burned door from a studio in Heerdt near Düsseldorf that I lived in from 1951 with my friend the poet Adam Reinhard Lünen. I did not burn the door, it was an explosion in the building that did this and burned it. When I left the studio, around 1958, I took this door with me and hung just two props on it...."

We took another way and surprise, surprise, we arrived at the big sceleton of a former factory building. Some workers were climbing around high above ground and cutting steel with their tools. So better don't go inside the ruins, was my first thought. No one noticed us. - Ex nickel works "Planta de Niquel de Punta Gorda" near Moa - Cuba.

Οι αθάνατοι - The immortals - this is how agaves are mostly called in Greece. This is an agave skeleton, reduced to the essentials by wind and weather. I found it at Georg's house and hung it on his shutter to take pictures. Hasselblad flexbody, Zeiss Planar 2,8/80mm, Polaroidmagazine,

Polaroidfilm Type 665. Scanned with Nikon Supercoolscan 8000ED.
