On Dec 29, 2013 a 2 alarm fire destroyed a 2 story home in rural Morgan Hill on Casa Loma Rd. The fire started in the chimney on the second floor, and residents were awoken by smoke detectors.
The occupants attempted to use a hose on the fire but it spread quickly and they wisely decided to evacuate and dial 911.
South County Fire District assisted by units from Morgan Hill Fire, San Jose Fire and Fire Associates of Santa Clara Valley responded to the incident and were able to stop the spread of the fire into the vegetation or to nearby storage facilities. The house however was razed to the ground.
South Santa Clara County Fire Protection District Engine 1 is built on a 2008 Pierce Dash chassis and operated by Cal Fire under a "Cooperative Fire Protection Agreement". For 2014 as part of a County Wide renumbering system this rig became Engine 67 (under the previous system there were at least NINE Engine 1s operating in the county, and it got messy on large jobs where mutual aid was involved).
