A procession to mark 100 years since (some) women got the vote in UK. Women marched with white, purple or green scarves, the colours of the suffragettes.
I LOVE COTTON... pure cotton, it keeps you cool, it keeps you warm...
The fiber is most often spun into yarn or thread and used to make a soft, breathable textile.
The use of cotton for fabric is known to date to prehistoric times; fragments of cotton fabric dated to the fifth millennium BC have been found in the Indus Valley Civilisation.
Although cultivated since antiquity, it was the invention of the cotton gin that lowered the cost of production that led to its widespread use, and it is the most widely used natural fiber cloth in clothing today.
It comes in the most gorgeous colours. I chose this beautiful combination... watercolours? Turquoisy green and royal blue...

Jerash, souvenir shoperash
Jerash (in ancient times Gerasa or Antioch on the Golden River) is a city in northern Jordan located 45 km north of the capital Amman, on the Jabbok River.
Gerasa is considered one of the most important Greco-Roman-Byzantine cities in the Middle East. The city was one of the Decapolis cities. It is now an extensive archaeological site. A large part of the old city is located under the current buildings and is therefore difficult to excavate.
..for sale at Whitchurch Silk Mill
According to legend, silk was discovered by Xi Lingshi, a Chinese Empress, about 4,500 years ago. A silk-moth cocoon fell from a mulberry tree into her tea and unravelled, revealing a silk thread.
The Chinese guarded the secret for nearly 3,000 years, importing the cloth throughout Asia and on to Europe along the Silk Road trading route. Today China still produces almost two thirds of the world's silk.
Happy week ahead!
the power went off here at 10:20 saturday night and came on at 2 p.m today [monday]. we've been rushing to refill the water bottles and trash cans and my bathtub because it's going off again at somewhere between midnight and 4:30 a.m. tuesday morning for another 2 days.
we have a generator which runs our 2 fridges and freezer at 4 hour stretches [then off for 4 hours]. leon added a lamp for me last night so I could read downstairs in front of the woodstove and we plug in the coffee pot in the morning.
I got to take a shower tonight. I would have taken a luxurious bath but I filled the bathtub with extra toilet flushing water just in case the power goes off earlier.
this is not fun.
but the fires in California are awful again and if this outage saves even one home, it's worth it.
we took a ride downtown this morning. nothing is open but the grocery stores and one coffee shop.
no gas. no batteries. no meat.
but the casino two off-ramps down from us is open and has gas and meals. [and gambling for those who want it.]
bless the casinos.

Saturday Self Challenge
This week we are going to:
"Portray femininity or masculinity in a photo"
Colour or b/w is fine and you can post-process as much as you want.
This was a bit of a uphill struggle as initially I had no idea what to do. Plan A failed miserably, so this is Plan B. I tied 6 of my summer scarves on a coat hanger and took a shot of them hanging. The result wasn’t very inspiring, following a little post processing using the Affinity Photo App ‘mirror’ feature, I came up with this kaleidoscope effect, which looks far better than the original. I just hope it fits the bill for the challenge. Oh and it’s femininity by the way, I couldn’t visualise a man wearing these :)
Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.
