The Waikato River, New Zealand's longest river, moves gracefully north from Lake Taupo between banks 100 metres apart. Just before the Huka Falls it enters a shallow ravine of hard volcanic rock. The effect is nature's large-scale equivalent of a fire hose feeding into a very fine nozzle.
The previously placid waters roar and rumble at great speed along the ravine before bursting into space out over Huka Falls to crash into the turbulent pool 11 metres below. This shot was taken from a foot bridge at the top of the falls, a prime position to get up close and witness the frightening display of more than 220,000 litres of water blasting by every second. I would have added this shot to the location map, but it shows no sign of the Falls, or Huka Falls Road, whereas Google Maps clearly shows both; ah well, never mind, does anybody (apart from me) ever look at these things anyway.
An exploration of color on a dreary and foggy day in Acadia National Park. Interestingly, Maritime Sunburst Lichen prefers growing on bark or wood and is less likely to be found on stone surfaces. However, in the presence of bird droppings or high nitrate content, the lichen will grow on rocks with the added nutrient enrichment.
Into the gloomy distance go the intrepid RAF Voyager and a Finnish Air Force F-18 Hornet at RIAT 2023. A symbol of NATO cooperation for now and into the future. It’s hard to believe that the closest to the camera of the two aircraft is the Hornet.
Near Buttermere, Lake District, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's the longest drop waterfall in the Lake District but is hidden amongst the trees, so it's hard to see until you get close.

Some builds are destined to be revisited when the availability of pieces become attainable. Last year the chain mail armor was started using the Mixel hinges but having the look sacrificed the structural integrity of the build as the hinges kept popping off due to the tension and overall weight of the armor. It was left in pieces after a disastrous fall due to gravity from the mannequin supporting it.
Last week I spotted the round 2x2 tiles from the PAB wall and that reignited the idea for the armor which added more weight but has strengthened the overall structure. This is a loose fitting small size which suits me fine, so enjoy the new look and just in time for Halloween...
I have been taking pictures of Beech Scale for a local newsletter which I edit. I am also learning how to put textures into images. Quelle coincidence! Taken from a museum at Rosario, which shows an ancient pharmacy (Farmacia Dinamarca - former Farmarcia Alemana, founded in 1881).
On clearance at Walmart! Very happy find! Along with the Millennium Falcon, this AT-AT was a Micro Galaxy Squadron on our wish list.
I wonder if they will make a Death Star... I know it would be massive even for this scale, but come on, Jazwares, it would be SO COOL!
