or in this case, the tiny bump of paint.

I went west this weekend, hoping to get in on the hawk migration that's been going on that I've been missing because it's just been too cold and wet with the non-stop rain for the entire month of September for me to want to go sit on a mountain. Disappointingly I seem to have missed it, or maybe the day just wasn't good for it. A few distant birds soared through the sky, but they were mostly vultures. The guys manning the hawk-watch at the old inn at Rockfish Gap were having a slow time of it.

Meanwhile, I was getting distracted by the veritable cornucopia of bugs crawling around on the building we were hanging out next to, many of which I hadn't seen before. This was one of the prizes - such a weird thing! And so tiny! Just a little speck! I wasn't sure what it was, but the 4-section antennae made me think a Heteroptera of some sort. Until I got to look at all the photos on the computer here.

Those legs looked familiar, and something about the eye area. Then there was the shape of the butt-end... So I Googled "humpbacked springtail" and BAM! There it was.

Scale plans were scanned and calibrated into fusion 360. It was clear the old turret would take way too much effort to repair. It was old quicker and cleaner to start again from scratch.

I apologize for the hasty shots, the pictures are often for a quick reference, as the models are delivered as soon as they are completed.

1 - Something old

This ancient set of scales lives at work next to one of the wall paper printing machines - it's used to weigh a sample of paper to calculate how much vinyl is being applied when the guys are setting up a printing run.

Technique - my usual lens, with all the zoom. Closest focusing distance. Hip braced against it's little bench to avoid motion blur. SOOC

Yesterday I went to see the heksenwaag (= a weigthing scale for people that are said to be a witch). This waag was being used from the 1400's till the 1800's. If people who were being weight were to skinny it meant that they were a witch. In total almost 500.000 people were killed, because people thought they might be a witch...
