Damiii BsHoooFeK AmSaaaaiT ..

This lad. This lad RIGHT. HERE.

He may hate me for this, but he deserves an appreciation post.

During the last few weeks (and to a point before that), he has been there for me. Checking in, sending me 'how are you?' messages, and leaving faux Sbux coffees and treats.

But more importantly, he's been a sounding board for my numerous vents and tears - and boy have there been a lot (or so it feels).

Magnus, I will never be able to express how thankful I am for your friendship, especially as of late.

Du är en stor vän.

För alltid i din skuld.

Jo/Bree

We are giving you the attitude, yo. I do not shoot the eyebrow lightly.

Third coffee meeting of the day in three parts of metro Baltimore - a new record. Always a good time with my friend Matt, and I always come away with some kind of fresh self-revelatory personal insight.

Today it was figuring out a little bit better the difference between self-awareness and self-determination as we talked about some stuff that's been bothering me lately. My personal worth is not based on performance or the opinions of others.

I knew that. I just forgot for awhile. Funny what work can do to you, right?

I had a pleasant 40 minute drive home - 695 east to 95 south to the 895 tunnel and then 97 south to home. Windows down, radio up, peace restored.

Not bad results for two Tazo Zens and a couple of those great Sbux chocolate chunk cookies.

Cheers!

Got the chance to catch up with Earl III yesterday at my favorite Starbucks in Towson - the one across from the mall.

He's almost done his finals, and was telling me about the film class all about film noir he's taking during the mini-mester held during Christmas break. A different film every day. Nice!

Always good to spend time with him, whether its a couple of hours like it was here, of a few days. He's a good man and a good son. I'm very proud of him.

Cheers!

Matt and I are both surprised by something completely unexpected that the 10 second timer said instead of "cheese" just before it went off. It sounded like either "fromage," or "get a life." Go figure.

Matt's wife, Katy, who is great, stopped in for a couple of minutes, too, but managed to escape with her coffee before the camera and Gorillapod emerged, stealthily, from the bag on the table.

I had a good time hearing about a fall project that Matt is planning, and I'm looking forward to jumping in on it, too.

I don't think I can remember the last time I had a coffee meeting with anyone that lasted less than 90 minutes or two hours. There's something about coffee/tea that gets the conversation/ideas/dreams/plans flowing that's pretty special, and it virtually never happens for me in an office. I'm glad I have the option to get stuff done outside of The Hive . . . I get pretty antsy having to stay inside my literal cube for too long.

Good people + good interaction + good settings + good coffee/tea = good results and some amazing dreams to put into play . . .

As most of my friends, I made a decision a couple of weeks ago to boycott Starbucks for good, for political reasons.

Anyway, the issue i'd like to discuss in this post that last week i went to Mecca for a 3umrah (umrah), for my surprise the largest and nearest residential towers to el7aram ( The Haram) Zamzam towers had a starbucks cafe!

I thought a country Like KSA would adopt a political stand on this issue especially when Howard Shultz explicitly expressed his support to the Israeli war on Palestine on various occasions. In addition to that, being a caffiene addict myself and a former SB-holic, i needed a daily fix of coffee. Unfortunately i couldn't find a decent replacement of SB in that tower. It was either SB or the lowsy and very weak coffee of snack bars. And if i wanted other options I'd have to go to The Macca towers next to Zamzam which are always crowded and there are no sit in coffee shops at all (except for starbucks ofcourse)

So every time i passed by Starbucks which is on my way to my room i was strongly tempted by the aroma of coffee and the sweet scent of caramel, and often considered ordering a satisfying cup of tall, extra caramel, caramel Macchiato with fluffy whipped cream on top. However, i still held up to my decision to boycott, thankfully.

wooh that was an exceptionally long description.

12 of us - all pretty big guys - drove down in a van to Richmond to meet a group there for lunch today and explore ways we can partner together in community serving ways.

Bill and Lou are doing fine work in the Lansdowne and Brooklyn communities of Baltimore, which is great - plus we get to do a lot of coffee shop shots together.

This is in the Starbucks on Rt 301 in La Plata, just before you get to the bridge that crosses the Potomac River into Virginia. It has one of the nicest layouts I've seen, looks pretty new and the staff handled a dozen of us rolling in at the same time effortlessly. I'm having a tall hot Tazo Zen green tea, my favorite.

Cheers!

Taken at the Starbucks on Main Street; it is one of my favorites. It was a grab shot while waiting in line for service.

I was so hoping she wouldn’t look up - and she didn’t.

A busy Starbucks in downtown Seattle with a nice empty table. I looked for our name on it but it didn't have one so we went to a nearby hotel lobby and sat by their fire instead. There's an advantage to having a different accent to the locals - they just assume you're visiting....

I liked the awkward sense that the negative space of the table left in me.

Wasn't feeling all too creative today. Spent most of it at the neighborhood Sbux - my way of getting some alone time to focus on some work that needs to be finished by tomorrow. As the day was about to end my sister met up with me and we collaborated on the post processing of this photo. I wanted it in black and white, she wanted to retain the green on the Starbucks logo, hence the result.

Its funny how despite it being a blur, the words SLOW DOWN speak to me the most. Perhaps in this dizzying process that we call life its often good to slow down, stop even, and focus on what's essential, what really matters. That way we don't have to keep running the maze trying to escape...

EXPLORED #171 (August 16, 2009)

This mid century jewel of a sign is likely endangered. The Googie integrity of the coffee shop was in the midst of "improvement by remodel" when we visited last month. Note to the owners: there is a modern Sbux across the street. Restore to former glory was the correct response.

Merry Christmas 2009

A break before the final shot of the day.

Nestle cocoa can chewy brownie recipe (experimented with my sbux cocoa powder - yes) with some 60% cocoa chips and Nutella on top

...said hello to the beautiful turquoise expanse, admired the bevy of leaf treasures and then went for coffee at our favorite sbux to chat about art, theater, tv, movies and being present. ☺️

It's de luxe! I wonder if it's better than Sbux? From the cabin on E.
