Saw this little owl a couple of weeks ago, it was great to see it as I do not see them very often.

We saw both Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs at Merritt Island National Wildlife Reserve. When they stand next to each other, there is no question about which is which, but seen at different locals in non-breeding plumage, things are a little more difficult.

The Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca) is considerably larger, more robust and with a thicker bill that is both larger than the Lesser's, and relatively longer (compared to head size). In addition, the Greater's bill usually has a slight upturn as shown in this picture.

The Lesser Yellowlegs (Triga flavipes) will shown in another post.

A visitor to the yard of a neighbour who kindly invited me to photograph it.

Saw this magnificent grey wolf residing at the time I took this photo at the Alaskan Wildlife Conversation Center, in Alaska obvs. It's the closest I've been to a wolf in the wild and even from a distance they looked proud and intelligent and amazing.

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, education, research and quality animal care.

I don't want to alarm you, but some people close to me say that once a month, on the full moon, I look a bit like this. (That's the Halloween scary bit for those in parts of the world that celebrate it ;)

I saw this figurine window decoration in Provence in the Spring of this year. It made me think of mon ami Pifou, who certainly would have enjoyed it. May he rest in peace.

saw this young coyote walking by himself in the grasses at Arastradero Preserve

Happy Bench Monday!!!

HBM!!

I saw this old guy while driving around La Grange, Texas. It's the very first jail house build in the town. Now it's being used as the City of La Grange Visitor’s Bureau and office space for the La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce. In the mid-1930’s, two members of the infamous Bonne and Clyde gang, Raymond Hamilton and Gene O’ Dare were held here for robbing the Carmine Bank.

Here's more info:

Fayette County opened its first jail in July, 1838. The cost of the first structure was $460. It was a primitive structure; prisoners were ironed and chained but within 10 years the building was sold. With no jail, prisoners were parceled out to various citizens for safekeeping. The plan worked until a murderer’s apprehension made arrangements for his incarceration in another town necessary.

In 1852, plans were finalized for a new jail that was in use by 1854. This jail was built by German immigrant Heinrich Kreishe, who was a stone mason by trade when he immigrated. You can see his work still at the Monument Hill/ Kreishe Brewery State Park.

By the early 1880’s, the need for a more modern and larger jail was evident and work began on the structure we now call the Old Jail. In November 1881, the county commissioners selected the Victorian Gothic design of Andrewarthe & Wahrenberger as the new look. The building was opened in 1883.

We saw a fantastic concert last night by Ian Felice, and this was one of the standout songs he performed, though they were all superb. It is a wonderful life, and it's important to make the most of it.

I saw this cow and I do take a picture of him that day, but then he was gone after the day I took a picture of him, I was so sad because many thoughts appeared in my head, is he killed by the butcher? etc. flic.kr/p/2nRmDgv

today I was passing through the field and saw him, and I am really happy for he is alive then I called him and he towards me (he didn't say anything, of course he can't speak, haha), I think it's definitely some kind of lost and found.

I deeply hope he has a happy life and healthy. 🐃

Have a great day and stay well, my friends.,😊😊

Saw this toy car in a gift shop and something about it just caught my eye :)

I saw this model of this huge battleship while touring the Carrier, USS Lexington, in Corpus Christi, Texas. This ship has an amazing battle record. The american Navy no longer uses these ocean monsters. I believe the last time one was ever used was off the coast of Vietnam. They look awesome pulling into port. enter the cave and i will lock the door...........forever :-)

I saw a pair of red-headed woodpeckers in the park today so I'm quite sure they are going to be nesting here this summer. This could be the same couple that fledged one youngster in the park last year.

We saw these growing along the roadside in Comanche County, Texas. After some research, I discovered that these are a different variety Indian Paintbrush called "Castilleja Purpurea" or "Prairie Paintbrush". These came in a variety of colors ranging from scarlet red to a peachy color.

... saw these 2 lonely tiny raccons waiting for Mom's return. My Gosh they were so tiny - a foot long if that. They were so close if I desired I could have touched them. Be safe and enjoy always.

Saw this little green-veined white ( Artogeia napi ) at a wayside ditch near a hedgerow covered with forget me nots next to my house couldn't resist.

I saw some nice poppies at my neighbour's hedge. While taking pictures I discovered this tiny visitor.

Sweat bee (Lasioglossum / Schmalbiene) on field poppy (Papaver rhoeas / Klatschmohn) 😉 HBW!

We saw this herd of wild deer wandering in a field near the road. So exciting to see them. It was almost dark and the iPhone did the best it could. Processed in Snapseed to produce this version. I did a lot of processing to get something from the original image.

We drove slowly by the field

Looking in the dark for deer.

Then magic happened.

A herd of twenty or more

Slid out of the night.

Watching us as we watched them.

Saw several herds on this journey. Efforts underway to stop poaching, but it is an ongoing battle, as the gangs are so well organized.

I re-edited this image this morning, enjoy!
