This is the most common color of vetch (at present) in our part of the Central Coast. interestingly, a "Hot Pink" color variety has newly appeared in Estero Bluffs state park near Cayucos, and is spreading rapidly there. A number of insect pollinators can see into the UV, and might find this 'day-glo' color more attractive? Evolution in action? It's a much faster process than people used to think!

Wikipedia
Aesculus hippocastanum, the horse chestnut, is a species of flowering plant in the maple, soapberry and lychee family Sapindaceae. It is a large, deciduous, synoecious (hermaphroditic-flowered) tree. It is also called horse-chestnut, European horsechestnut, buckeye, and conker tree. It is not to be confused with the sweet chestnut or Spanish chestnut, Castanea sativa, which is a tree in another family, Fagaceae.

una curiosità:
Common Vetch has also been part of the human diet, as attested by carbonised remains found at early Neolithic sites in Syria, Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia. It has also been reported from predynastic sites of ancient Egypt, and several Bronze Age sites in Turkmenia and Slovakia. However, definite evidence for later vetch cultivation is available only for Roman times.
