Easter is brought to my back yard this year by the Sap Moon, and birdsong. (Audio at the link, turn on your volume.)

Sweetwater took up the challenge and produced this silent behemoth so without further ado Sweetwater Presision weapons brings you the all new SOF SAP-12 'Sentinel', or 'Specialty ammuntion Platform 12mm'. Build from the ground up with new age polymers and titainium, the SAP-12 is the worlds first internally supressed .50 caliber sniper rifle. Desighned to replace the aging M107 Barrett 'Light Fifty', the SAP 12 comes in at 17 pounds a full 13 pounds lighter that the M107, and a full 1' 6" shorter. Firing on semi automatic at 120 rounds a minute (When tested by official Sweetwater tester). The SAP-12 is capable of firing standard 12.7mm (.50cal) BMG nato rounds or Sweetaters custom 12mm cartriges with no modification.The round pictured is Sweetwaters Subsonic Explosive Penetrator (SEP) round, capable of putting a 6" hole in a steal reinforced concrete wall at 900 meters. The internal silencer takes heard noise from a standard Supersonic cartrige down to 175db, with Sweetwaters sub-sonic ammo it's 138db.

Chipmunk lapping up tree sap earlier this spring. I had never paid close attention to squirrels and chipmunks gnawing on bark to get sap to flow but for some reason this year I saw so many of them doing this for a brief period. I even managed to get a few photos of this behavior. Sap must be a tasty treat in late winter/early spring!

The sap is running out of the Red Maple. I tasted it, it's quite tasteless. Apparently, it takes 10 Gallons of Maple Sap to make 1 Quart of Maple Syrup.
scary. these guys scale up the trunks of the trees to attach small pots to collect dripping sap at the top. the sap is then used for everything from candy to alcohol. myanmar, march 2009
