Location: Santorini Island, Thira Greece
It’s summer in Greece. Sunny days, vacations, new places, sea and new experiences. Orpheus as AVISTAR Greece has gone to Santorini, a lovely Greek island, one of the most famous destinations, selected by many to spend their time, making life time memories.
During his trip he got encounter with a charming tourist, a Russian artist that got himself a bit lost, so Orpheus decides to give him a hand, so he can experience his vacations in a way a friendly local can show.
Together they got to see the excavations of the prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri. Walking around Thira, talking to him about history. Visiting Santo Wines or Venetsanos for wine tasting experience of outstanding wineries on the island. Sailing to the volcano for tour, is the best way to indulge in the rich volcanic history of the island and swimming at the hot springs. Then tasting the local cuisine in one of the traditional taverns, taking and watching together the breathtaking sunset in Oia, ending the day with an arbitrary kiss.
Just like this the days go by, till it is time for the tourist to return back. Before leaving, he leaves behind his favorite book, “The Pilgrimage” of Paulo Coehlio, marking a page with a red rose on a page, underlining some words and writing a dedication for Orpheus. It is a way many Greek summer stories leave a mark of a flaming memory and a promise.
Who knows, if they are going to meet again?

Santorini Island in the south Aegean Sea, Greece, was named for the Macedonian martyr Saint Irene (Santa Irina). The island's capital Fira sits atop a cliff on the west coast.

Santorini offers you the rare chance to travel around the whole island with a donkey. The best place to catch these donkeys is at the old port at Fira, the capital of Santorini. They are a local symbol and take people, tourists to the port down the cliff.
Fira. Santorini Island (Greece)
The best way to see Fira Village on Santorini Island in Greece is to follow the cliffs of the caldera. The caldera was formed by volcanic eruptions which started to form the caldera about 180,000 years ago.

According to legend, Santorini emerged from the depths of the sea- opinion justified by the timeless activity of the undersea volcano and the geological topography of the island.
The first human remains, dating back to the Stone Age, show that the island has been inhabited since the prehistoric times. There is some evidence of life in the early Bronze Age, in the mid-3rd millennium BC, during the second period of the early Cycladic civilization (2800-2100 BC). However, from the middle Bronze Age (1900-1600 BC), evidence becomes more abundant, showing great development.
In the area of Akrotiri (Promontory), there was a prehistoric settlement with a very important port. The great volcanic eruption in the late Bronze Age (ca.1600 BC) buried the settlement under 30 metres of ash.

A town adorned in a charming blue and white theme. There is so much to look for in this photo by zooming in (click twice).
This is a B/W photograph of Hēmerovigli (aka Imerovigli, Ἡμεροβίγλι), the highest settlement or village on Santorini (aka Thēra, Θήρα) Island, Greece, at an 1,181 ft (360 m) altitude. The Orthodox Christian Church of the Resurrection (“Anastasis”) of the Lord is viewed with its blue dome.
The architecture of the volcanic island is of course Cycladic yet it has a distinctive style of its own. One enjoys the awe-inspiring beauty of the whitewashed houses atop the sheer cliffs and in proximity to Skaros, the dark and enormous rock formation, on the north of the island's largest town, Fira (aka Phēra, Φηρά). The shot was taken in late October.
The beautiful city of Oia sits atop the northern edge of the caldera that forms Santorini Island in Greece. I didn't have much time there, so I'll have to back to visit again someday!
