I believe thees people are dressed in Vietnamese costumes as they celebrate Chinese New Year as well. I was intrigued by the designs of these costumes. Looks like the guy carrying the Target bag had spotted me with a blank stare. I also didn't realize a woman pushing a baby stroller with her dog in it was in my frame too, when I took this photo. She looked toward my direction. I am not sure whether she was looking at my camera or the folks in Vietnames costumes. One of the guys was looking up starring at something too. I love street photography in SF.

It's not a black and white picture but a cold and foggy evening of August (but there are also beautiful sunny days).

Maiden Lane has always been a study in compression: a narrow downtown passage that quietly absorbs the rhythms of Market Street and releases them softened, filtered, almost polite. In this moment, the lane reads as a temporary room carved from the city itself. Café tables and chairs—light, colorful, intentionally unprecious—are scattered across the asphalt, turning what was once a service corridor into a place meant for lingering.

The architecture does the real work. Mid-rise facades on either side create a long, measured canyon, their materials shifting from brick to stone to glass as the lane moves east to west. Mature street trees knit the elevation together, forming a soft ceiling that lowers the scale and dampens the city’s usual urgency. The patterned pavement marking underfoot acts less like decoration and more like choreography, guiding the eye forward while reinforcing the lane’s human pace.

Nothing here feels theatrical. The storefronts remain reserved, the windows reflective but not performative. Even the furniture seems provisional, as if it knows this is an experiment rather than a final answer. That restraint is what makes the scene so legible at a glance: one idea, clearly stated. Downtown San Francisco briefly pauses, not to reinvent itself, but to remember that streets can be rooms, and rooms can invite calm.

Maiden Lane has hosted many versions of urban ambition over the decades. This one favors quiet confidence over spectacle—a modest intervention that lets scale, proportion, and patience do the talking.

In the early 70′s, the young Maxime le Forestier, 21, spent a month in a house of San Francisco, experiencing the life of a hippie community. One or two years later, this stay inspired him to write the song San Francisco: "There is a sky blue house/Built right up against the hill/ They all come on foot/they don’t knock on door/ Those who’re living here/got rid of the key".

The song was an immediate success and launched the career of the French singer. 40 years later, he returns to San Francisco to commemorate the newly re-painted house.

This "Blue House" is not really authentic which speaks Maxime Le Forestier , but you will forgive me , I hope.

True it looks like a sister :-) . Both are typical Victorian San Francisco.

The " Blue House" Maxime Le Forestier is located at 3841 18th Street in the Castro and not like this in the Haight Asbury .

On the occasion of the 40 year career of Maxime Le Forestier, his record company offers home owners - who in the meantime has been painted light green - to restore its blue color. On 21 June 2011, the singer gives the last stroke and 22 a plate is affixed with " In 1970, Maxime Le Forestier was inspired by the blue house for writing one of his earliest success.

While we were strolling around in the Mission District, we came across this Victorian house with bright blue colors and intricate crown mouldings. It was very eye-catching. Without hesitation, I took this ultra wide angle shot with my phone. I typically don't carry any ultrawide angle lens for my camera these days whenever I walk about the city. The ultrawide on my phone is good enough.
