This one of the finest handsaws I've had the pleasure of working with. It is a early era Sandvik no 270 straightback saw with a 26 inch saw plate with breasted tooth line and beautifully ornamented apple handle.

This National Romantic style pattern was very common in the Nordic countries in the late 1900s and early part of the 20th Century,

I am not able to date this saw exactly, so a guess without any supporting proof would be sometime around the earlier parts of the 20th century, possibly as early as the 1920s but no later than the 1940s.

These earlier Sandvik saws are made of exceptionally high quality steel and are very demanding to sharpen and set but will keep an egde for a very long time.

This example has been refiled for ripping at 5 TPI. Sveral teeth had been broken on this saw and two teeth still remain that way.

The saw had lost a bit of the crowned tooth line, so I have to spend some time jointing and reshaping before I got it back to where I wanted it.

It's very difficult to describe how a very good saw feels. But when a decent saw might feel basically good it will still provide resistance and attention. It might struggle with certain wood types or it might struggle a bit at the toe or the middle.

A truly good saw will just cut and it will feel like the saw is asking for more.
