Monsoonal season is a magical time of year in the Desert Southwest. Already beautiful scenery comes alive as thunderstorms roll over the canyons and mountains. I had the pleasure and rare opportunity to document a haboob generated by nearby thunderstorms get swallowed up by The Grand Canyon during the golden hour. These two combining forces made for an absolutely otherworldly experience and photo opportunities

I'm not able to find enough time to follow my eyes! Everywhere I go I see something, but especially when is calm and relaxing like Maldives. The white sand itself gave me a lot of inspirational thoughts..

This used to be a public road. It is now closed off for housing and other development but still open to pedestrian traffic.

The only way in and out of Greystoke is by water. If you arrive at the Mahale airstrip by plane you will be treated to a cruise along the shore of the lake to the camp.

Our main goal for this safari was to see Chimps in the wild. Nomad's Greystoke Camp on the edge of Lake Tanganyika certainly did not disappoint delivering 3 morning treks all will fun filled chimp encounters with the habituated M Group. The guiding here is exceptional as is the camp itself.

Mahale Mountains National Park lies on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Kigoma Region, Tanzania. Named after the Mahale Mountains range that is within its borders, the park has several unusual characteristics. First, it is one of only two protected areas for chimpanzees in the country. (The other is nearby Gombe Stream National Park made famous by the researcher Jane Goodall.) The chimpanzee population in Mahale Mountains National Park is the largest known and due to its size and remoteness, the chimpanzees flourish. It is one of the very few parks in Africa that must be experienced by foot. There are no roads or other infrastructure within the park boundaries, and the only way in and out of the park is via boat on the lake.

Katavi National Park is the third largest national park in Tanzania. It is very remote and less frequently visited than other Tanzanian national parks. The park is approximately 4,471 square kilometers (1,726 sq mi) in area. The park encompasses the Katuma River and the seasonal Lake Katavi and Lake Chada floodplains.

The number of annual visitors to the park is extremely low, just above 1,500 foreign visitors out of a total 900,000 registered in the whole Tanzania National Parks system during 2012/13.

Wildlife includes large animal herds, particularly of Cape Buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, and elephants, plus along the Katuma river, crocodiles and hippopotami which upon annual dry seasons results in mudholes that can be packed with hundreds of hippos.

The hippo pools of Katavi has been on my bucket list for some time. This October we finally did it on a fleeting 3 night stop over on the way to Mahale. Unfortunatly the time you can spend there is dictated by the twice a week flights, unless you drive, that operate on Mondays and Thursdays.

This was freebie from SanDisk. I can't remember what I bought. It's only useful for shopping trolleys.

It's a very simple setup with the keychain laying on matt black card and a hint of two white LED video-lights. Taken with my Nikon Z6ii with Nikkor 105mm macro lens.

Seeing the hippo pools of Katavi was on my bucket list for some time. October 2018 we finally did it on a fleeting 3 night stop over on the way to Mahale.

The pools were not as crowded as previous years as the rains had been good and there was still water about.

This morning we took a leisurely breakfast stop on one of the raised banks by the old bridge out of the way of the hippo and croc activity. The smell wasn't too bad from here either.
