Tottori Sand-dune

Many tourist's footprints were left at the sand dune.

I fully explained this one in the learning group (including the tools!) Check this out here: fb.com/groups/ericpare

A lone backpacker trudges off into the dunes of White Sands National Monument. Unedited, straight off the camera.

Thanks to my "models" we were able to hang onto that sunset for awhile!

It isn't the mountain ahead that wears

you out: It's the grain of sand in your

shoe.

This strange colorful sand can be found in Paracas National reserve in Peru. Being there you really feel like you are in a different world, like somebody just painted that.

basically a roadside snap though I did climb up the dunes a bit and that is harder than it looks.

Looking north along the vast stretch of dunes on a walk from Ainsdale to Formby.

Stretching for around 20km between Liverpool and Southport, the Sefton Coast sand dune system is the largest in England. The environment here supports lots of different dune-specialised species, so it’s recognised as one of the most important dune habitats in North-west Europe and is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest. Our work on the Sefton Coast covers over 4,500 hectares of sand dunes, beach and tidal mud flats, and some areas of heath and woodland. The very long and wide beach here is a beautiful place to enjoy the coast and take a long walk by the sea, making it popular with visitors from far and wide year-round.

Scientists usually try to find out the earliest date the dunes started forming, but it can be very tricky. The age of an individual grain of sand can certainly be dated, sometimes even to millions and millions of years ago. Unfortunately, the age of one particular grain of sand doesn’t reveal when the grain of sand actually started to be part of a sand dune.

Climbing the Antofagasta Volcano, in Catamarca province, Argentina. A short yet steep and challenging climb. The Alumbrera Volcano is seen in the background.

The unspoiled beauty of Cattersty Sands at Skinningrove. There are no amenities here, just the beach, the sea and a jetty!

Dunes de Maspalomas - Gran Canaria

A setting looking to the south while walking and taking in views across dune ridges and flats at the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes in Death Valley National Park. With this image, I decided to angle my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward and capture a sweeping view across the sands to my front. That would then bring the distant mountains higher into the image and perhaps create more of a sense of grandeur.

The fox caught taking a nap on the dunes facing the beach.
