My friend Eli Vega who is a published photographer told me "to use your camera often even if you're just shooting in your own backyard." He told me that he felt like his camera was "just another appendage" to his body. I don't know if I'll ever feel like that but I was impressed by those words.

A bushtit couple has been working on building a nest near this site. The nest shown here was used last year, and they are taking pieces off of it for use in the new one. Very resourceful!

Salvage, on the Eastport Peninsula, on the island of Newcoindland. Salvage, is one of the longest settled places in North America. It has a long and interesting history.

Salvage, Terre Neuve, Canada
Terre Neuve est avant tout un endroit féérique aux paysages qui changent drastiquement d'une région à l'autre. Des sommets de montagnes dénudées de végétation aux Fjords incroyables, des landes côtière ou le Caribou des bois règne, d'immenses lacs d'eau douce sauvage sans même 1 chalet, des rivières ou les Salmonidés et le Saumon d'atlantique abonde mais avant tout une province côtière ou la pêche a jadis été un mode de vie... La majorité des habitants sont installés du les côtes et il n'y a presque pas de villes ou village à l'intérieur des terres sauf quelques exceptions.
Ici 2 captures de la cabane de pêcheur emblématique de Terre-Neuve à Salvage juste au bout d'une péninsule au nord-est du superbe Parc national Terra-Nova.

Newfoundland is above all a magical place with landscapes that change drastically from one region to another. Mountains top of bare rocks, incredibles fjords, coastal and inland Barrens home of the Woodland Caribou, vast wild freshwater lakes without even a cottage, rivers or Salmonids and Atlantic Salmon abounds but above all a coastal province where fishing was once a way of life ... The majority of the inhabitants are settled on the coast and there are almost no towns or villages in the interior except for some exceptions.
Here are 2 shots of Newfoundland's emblematic fisherman's hut at Salvage just down a peninsula to the northeast of the beautiful Terra Nova National Park.
An old shot taken somewhere in Nebraska years back. This salvage yard was the main attraction in a dying rural town. A lot of rusty treasures seem to be a very common feature in these fading towns...

I was trying out a new-to-me semi-spot meter (4 degrees) while shooting this roll of Delta; this was the only image that was passable due to my poor judgement of trusting the meter without pre-calibration (here I used sunny 16). All the other shots were at least 2 stops overexposed. It's awhile since I used Delta for 35mm, and it shows.

(pronounced with a hard "A" i.e."Salve-Age") This fishing village is situated in a ruggedly beautiful setting. This view is from one of several good trails.
On this bright sunny morning I should have headed into the forest but this Lazuli Bunting was sitting there amongst the light green leaves of the Acacia tree and it seemed such a nice backdrop. I had to do a lot more processing than I like to do but I got a nice image out it and a reminder to not shoot during the bright sun. It is pouring rain right now.
On this particular outing we made an early morning gamble to shoot the local between Mingo Junction and Conway. The plan was to shoot that job, then have a nice easy drive back home. Unfortunately due to trackwork that plan did not come to fruition, and we got skunked on the local. Trying to salvage what we could, we decided to head over to the Bessemer to see what was happening. Lucky for us a misc run to Butler had happened, and we chased them on the return journey between Oneida and Kremis. This did make for a much later return home that night than originally planned, but I'd say this was worth sticking around for.

I stuck the hose into a nice little Tak 35/3.5 to get rid of some fungus. First test seems good. [This is a 100% crop.] Seems like a lovely little lens.
This was really overexposed, so I used a little HDR to retrieve it, I liked the clouds in the background.

Tried to see if I could save this. In the original, you could barely see the flowers. It was so dark. Wanted to see what Topaz adjust, simplify and noise could do for this.
Back in November, I had a free Saturday, so I headed for Hoosac Tunnel. Obviously that was a bust (I know...shocking, right?), so I headed for West Springfield, hoping to catch Q425's departure to salvage the day.
Alas, all I got was a yard job. At least the lighting worked.
Salvage is a small outport on the Eastport Peninsula that I have been visiting for many, many years. It is one of the jewels of this beautiful Island.
