An iconic logo for Morton Salt. I hope it's not bad luck to drop salt like this (over the shoulder is supposed to be good luck, right?). This has always been one my favorites.

Mono Lake last night (November 2019).
Captured while leading a seminar for the Mono Lake Committee in November 2019. Lori Hibbett and I will be leading another Mono Lake Moon Rise and Winter Light workshop at Mono Lake December 17-19, 2022.
On the rails threading straight across one of earth's greatest lunar landscapes--the sodium-rich dehydrated lakebed forming the Searles Valley--three ravished, tattered, 645ed EMDs, speed lettering chiseling through faded cinder block carbodies, head up a long string of empty 5 bays just getting underway on their evening trip back toward interchange with Union Pacific for another round of generating coal, beating the disappearance of the setting sun by mere moments though unfortunately still too late for the more preferable and fruitful photographic results that are possible here. The Trona Railway operates out of Trona, CA (visible in the distant background), hauling Trona-related products (i.e. soda ash and other assorted goodies) and other materials related to said production, an operation wholly owned by the mining company Searles Valley Minerals and a vital link to the only bit of worthful economic activity in this otherwise barren wasteland.
Mono Lake formed at least 760,000 years ago, vital habitat for millions of migratory and nesting birds. Mono lake formation is associated to volcanism and faulting at the base of the Sierra Nevada. Very impressive place. Thanks to a group of environmentalists this wonder is been preserve by reducing diversions of water from the Eastern Sierra watersheds by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
I love the contrast of the colorful sunset against the white salt field. A great place to enjoy the end of the day.

Una delle lagune salate nell'imenso deserto degli altipiani meridionali della Bolivia a 4.300 mt di altirudine. ( 8 scatti a mosaico per ottenere qesta panoramica, realizzata con con Panorama Maker))
Gli altipiani meridionali della Bolivia, dal Salar de Uyuni alla Laguna Verde, Laguna Colorada, Sol de Mañana, Deserto di Siloli.
Un circuitodi 5 giorni tra i 3800 e i 4900 metri sul livello del mare, con una natura intatta che fa pensare di essere agli albori della creazione.
Bolivia Southern Highlands from Salar de Uyuni to Green Lagoon, Red Lagoon, Sol de Mañana and Siloli Desert. High Route (from 3600 to 4900 mt above sea level), uncontaminated environment, wonder of nature that reminds the dowinig of creation.
Salt pans at dusk near Trapani, Sicily, Italy, going back to the archives for a bit, which I will be doing more and more often until I start taking new photos, these are the last of the bunch from Trapani province.
