Today the core construction of the Salesforce tower is now as tall as the Millennium Tower. I can now say goodbye to a good chunk of view from my apartment of the tower.
I used to look at the Millennium Tower as a handsome building with upright strength. Since I have learned this week that the structure has sunk 16 inches and listed 2 inches to the northwest since it was built, I find it troubling to look out of my window and see it.
I suspect that the city of San Francisco will not again allow a high rise building like this to be built without pilings that go down to bedrock.
I think the developer made a big mistake with this project by not spending more money. To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin (?), a penny saved is a pound wasted.
