My new pens Sakura Pigma Micron ... Love it, and I'm so happy. :D

Just received my SAKURA Pigma Micron Fineliner assorted Pens. I decided to try it out with a landscape of one of my favorite movie theaters:

Splotch Monster Kaiju 2: Gammera - Everyone’s favorite giant cosmic turtle simply couldn’t be left out of this brief series. Looks like Gammera has a triple threat on his hands/claws, this time around. Not sure if they’ll be jumping out from a nearby body of water, or approaching our reptilian hero from mid-air. Whatever the case, I hope I can come up with something while drawing on this at the 2018 Monster Drawing Rally at the Greater Reston Arts Center this Saturday. I typically like to work on art without the presence of onlookers, so this will be quite a challenge, but a very welcome one, nonetheless. #monsterdrawingrally #greaterrestonartscenter #splotchmonsterisland #gammera #gamera #kaiju #drawing #watercolor #art #artwork #monsterart #artistsoninstagram #prismacolormarkers #sakurapigmamicron

My current project is...use all the stuff I have lying around until they are gone. ^__^;

While working on some stuff I've noticed that I had quite a number of Sakura Micron Pens. Where did they even come from? o_O; I'm guessing several years of random collecting and this is what I'm left with. I know that years ago I had a lot more 005 black pens but I've used some of them up. It looks like I have quite a number of size 01. I may have bought a set once, or two from what it looks like. I'm getting a bit old if I can't remember when I got these, since some of them are actually at least 10 years old or more. So it goes to show, they last a long time! .... especially if you don't use them. u_u; I have a feeling the color ones are going to take a long time to finish off....EDIT: I had to toss the rose today, found out it had a bent nib. Aww.

I've moved away from mechanical pencils for the most part, but sometimes I use them. I got a 0.3mm size pencil which is nice to clean up some bits but I prefer to use wood pencils now. The Prisma Color Col-erase pencils were leftovers at my work. I was scrounging around for free things like notebooks and the office manager gave me these because she said the artists left them and they were free for taking. Although half used, I took them and I immediately love them! Yay for free things. :3

The kneaded eraser makes things easier for me to erase so I have less eraser shredding, and it's a good stress reliever eh? It was a required tool for my watercolor class, so in the end I really liked it. I haven't used one since high school, maybe.

Brush and Graphic, I haven't found a use for...yet.

The gel pen is for high lights and other stuff with my markers.

And the paper is cheap cardstock from Michaels. It's not the best, but it was cheap and it works. ^^

When I finally use all of these I'm not sure what I'll do or move onto. I don't want to buy anything until I absolutely need it.

What do you use?

i traced a zentangle tile into my sketch book and i hadn't finished it before moving on. but today i purchased a small field study watercolour kit (koi water colors pocket field sketch box by sakura) on clearance at joann. and to try it out, i just kinda went for it. and i LOVE IT. i mean, not this so much it is kind of weird and wacky but the effect. i've always been so partial to watercolour. so. happy addition to my creative outlet arsenal!

I don't usually sketch any shop that close. It was just 10-15 steps away. A guy who stopped by gave me a weird look 'cos he park his motorcycle just in front of me. Anyway I've gained more confident sketching in public now.

while wandering half price books i found two mandala colouring books by monique mandali. they were super inexpensive so i bought them. last night i traced a design into my large sketch pad and set about ZIA-ing it. i like but not love how it came out but my mom loves it and so we're going to frame it and put it up in her company's new office (they're decorating in a black and white theme). no shading or anything, just straight pen on paper. again, like not love but i'm going to try again!

It's my bag! Well, part of it. It's an old purse that I use as a catch-all for my sketching things. It is too small for a large sized watercolour Moleskine, which is what I use but the pocket sketchbooks fit neatly into one of the... well... pockets.

I set out to use my new Sakura koi waterbrush for all the colouration in a sketch. Getting washes with it was not so great, so I'll probably go back to using the Pentel for washes. This is a bit of knitting I've started. I was going to make some Doctor Who socks for a friend but she's requested something more conservative.

This tree is fascinating. It has been pruned so that it's branches twist and its canopy is very compact. It was extremely cold so I didn't get far with this. I ended up painting the background from memory. Being indoors so much nowadays, I wanted this one to feel like a view through a window.

The waterbrush has been dripping a lot in the past few days. It was difficult to get the right effects today.

These are older sketches but suitable for the 'shopping' Urban Sketcher's week. These are the views of two bus stops in Windsor, Ontario, Canada (and a broach. I had to draw something!) The shops at the top left are at Ottawa Street and Hall Avenue.

For anyone who might be interested, the right page is a view of the Ambassador Bridge which connects Windsor with Detroit, Michigan. It is just visible through the canopy of the trees at the University Avenue bus stop near the University of Windsor.

I had a long wait in an office while I did this one. I think the pen is a burgundy pigma micron. I can't see any colour printed on the side.

While staying at Kris’ mom, Jan’s new home, I made sure to try and get some drawing and sketching in, including work for a pigeon-themed collaboration with a friend. I took full advantage of the morning sun and the cool breeze, or “Christmas breeze”, as many folks call it in Trinidad. In Virginia, it’s rare that I get to experience and enjoy a nice, slow morning, so even though I was up by about 7:30 each day (which is considered sleeping in, for me), it was good to be in no hurries whatsoever. In addition to sketching both realistic and cartoonish pigeons, I drew Oliver (“Ollie”) - Jan and Kris’ brother Ryan’s dog, sleeping. I also drew an imaginary tree, different plant leaves, and some early morning cloud forms. There’s no doubt that drawing is work - your mind is fully, visually engaged with either the subject in front of your eyes, or you’re tapping into your imagination - both of which require a good deal of effort. Despite this, I find it highly meditative and calming - something you’ll hear a lot of people say about when pursuing various creative endeavors, be it playing an instrument, cooking a meal, writing a story, woodworking, painting, sewing, knitting, etc. Even working with numbers and statistics can feel that way for some, because you’re in a mental zone, of sorts (or you “zone out” everything else, for a while). Certain kinds of dancing and music can be almost trance-inducing, as well. The best part was sketching in the backyard. Jan and Ryan have a lovely garden, and on Christmas Day, a couple of the gorgeous hibiscus flowers planted for Kris bloomed so beautifully, one of which fell off the stem the next morning. Our sweet girl was with us. Anyway, hoping for some more slow mornings and continuing to get a bit of sketch time in this year. #drawing #sketching #art #artwork #sketchbook #sketchbooks #moleskine #moleskinesketchbook #sakurapigmamicron #hibiscus #artistoninstagram #artistsoninstagram #dmvartist #pigeons #plants #slowmorning #morningsun #observationaldrawing #showyourwork
