The church is abandoned now and has been for a long time. Lost to the ages of time and lonely are the memories left behind... What happen?

At one time these churches must've been a gathering for the local community. Every Sunday morning I would imagine the church bells would be ringing loudly by boys pulling eagerly on the rope bringing all the faithful together. The pastor would be standing by the entrance of the church greeting everyone by name and asking each how they are doing knowing each one's situation. Old people would come to pray, young families would bring their babies and young children to be baptized. The congregation would always come together to pray whenever one of their members fell on hard times or needed assistance. And then slowly, ever so slowly over time, .....fewer and fewer people would come to the services and they would silently look at one another and wonder. They probably tried to keep their congregation going for awhile hoping for a small miracle until sadly they could no longer keep their congregation going and the people slowly abandoned their church either by moving away or joining another. And then one fateful day, the last person leaving, steps through the front door turned around and locked the door silently behind him and walked down the front steps not looking back.

Aspelund, Free Lutheran Church, Vang, North Dakota. This church is near the town of Vang, that no longer exists as a town. One of many thousands of small towns that have disappeared in the Dakota's in the last 50 years.

Having yesterday posted a photo of her in her prime, I thought I'd revisit an earlier post. I hope you will agree this appears to be a considerable improvement on my original!

My father took this image as Vanguard, towed by probably Fleet tugs, approached the Rhu Narrows, en route to Faslane for breaking-up. Wikipedia notes that she arrived there on 12 June 1960, so that must be the date, although there is no indication of this on the slide.

At 51,000 tons plus, she was Britain's biggest, fastest, and the world's last, battleship. My father thought that this was potentially the last photo of her at sea. Taken from aboard an Army tank landing craft at/near Helensburgh.

Scanned from a slide.

A sad ending. This couple of dragonflies was flying in tandem when they got entangled in a spiderweb…

This story does not have a happy ending.

Amazed to see this! I dont think I have ever seen a damsel on our patio.

My excitement and interest with the camera proved infectious and unfortunately about 2 seconds after this picture was taken Dory pounced and ate the damselfly. I tried to get it out of her mouth but it was already mashed and I quickly realised that the damsel was alive but well beyond rescue so just left Dory to get on with it.

Lost in music... So sad to just chuck it out or leave it on the pavement.

The Art Of The Steal • The fact that the Capitol was overrun and sacked, and there was no effort whatsoever to evacuate the president from DC to a secure, remote location tells you all you need to know about who launched and directed the attack. The emperor has no clothes.

Trump Should Be Removed from Office

It’s time to say what we said 20 years ago when a president’s character was revealed for what it was.

Rob DeGraff helped me get this selfie at this tribute to those who lost their lives in Vietnam from the state of Oregon.

Similar in some ways to the Washington DC Vietnam Memorial, your reflection is seen in the names of those that have been lost. This vision always brings a shiver to me, here in Oregon or DC.

Please note: 8/6/2013. I must appolgize to anyone that was hurt or offended by this image. It has always been my policy to never post or comment on politically charged images. It is my belief that Flickr in not the proper forum for political posturing. I will be more careful in the future.

Already horrendously late and now as we approach the end of the Summer season this Zip-Wire has not been lead to the best start!

While originally I was very concerned about the aesthetics of the pier being irrevocably scarred I think they did a good job on keeping it pretty. I say that while it is still new and unweathered, as it will surely experience all elements over the winter! I hope, for Bournemouth's sake they keep it pretty!

Can't quite think of anything even neutral to say about the insanely bright advertising board now on the front of the pier. This is already doing more damage to photos than this Zip Line ever could!

Got the egg pushed back much further than this image...hoped for the best as there were baby birds in this nest and I assumed (incorrectly) that the sparrows would just take care of this egg and the baby bird that hatched. For a while it seemed all would be fine, then I found the egg and yolk cracked open on the ground below this house. Lessons learned: Don't mess with Mother Nature. Or, put it on cotton in a small box under a light and perhaps it would've hatched at home and DO mess with Mother Nature again. Or, leave well enough alone and keep walking past when I find an egg on the ground.

Two great flat tops sit side by side and await their fate at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. I think both are slated to be sunk as artificial reefs. The Forrestal suffered a tragic fire while preparing for an air strike into North Viet Nam in July of 1967. She lost 134 sailors that day.

Attached are links for both carriers.

Sad to see what has become of my Madame Alexander doll. Turns out all those years of dragging her into the tub with me and my bubble bath weren't good for her. Wonder if they made me look like that too?

A night time shot of 'JIL', a Volvo B9 just after being brought back to the yard after it's accident. Sad end.

I found the wreck of the wooden former lightship LV38 at Grays Beach. Clearly the remains of a lightship [see lantern tower] a passer-by told me the vessel had been moored here and then burned by vandals. It is in very poor repair and the wooden hull is now breaking up. A check on the internet revealed the story is true.

Of all the times not to have a fresh bag of chips on hand.....had to make due with the small broken bits at the bottom of the bag.

here it is folks - my last ever trip to Steetley on Saturday 26th June. (There's now security Guard there warning people off. Luckily they're very cheap - one guy in a hut at the bottom who doesn't patrol (as of yet anyway!). Drove up to the graveyard end and ducked straight in. We'd been shoo'd off the week before - needed one last trip.

There's alot going on there - new holes everywhere - obviously surveying the site to see what they got. (When we were nabbed the Saturday before the guy said it was dangerous as there were holes everywhere!) Even if you've been before - PLEASE - please do watch your step - there's a few nasty surprises lurking.

I feel really quite sad about it. i'd always imagined that there was plenty of time to go back with the macro lens, with the new sq-ai 150mm, with the SQ-ai 40mm when i can afford one, with the 70-200 etc. more than ever, i've realised that if you see a possible image - get it in the bag, quick - procrastination is the enemy!

So here's a final glass raised to Steetley - site of many slivers of photographic gold. Here's to the good times there - and here's a glass to the people soon to be housed there. With a tear in my eye - here's to Steetley!

I could not get a butterfly or moth to sit still for me all day. So, I was really glad to see this one so intent on the lovely little field flower... Little did I know that it was really paralyzed. Those spiders are so creepy. Blech!

Dead wasp and nest remnants.

It built it's nest in the kids playhouse.

I gave it a choice - stop building your nest and leave now.

The wasp didn't listen.

I tried one last time - "I can find you a new place to build your nest - you can go on living."

It flew at me, then just kept on building.

I had no choice.

I'm so sorry.

This one was mine. Then a guy who was fixing something nearby said I could dispose of it in the bed of his pickup. That's pretty handy. Houston, TX.
