A Canadian Pacific train rolls along this iconic curve of the Bow River. A light coating of snow had fallen overnight adding some nice contrast.
Mt. Temple, Haddo Peak, Saddle Mtn and Fairview Mtn form a nice background.
Have a wonderful Friday and weekend!
Join us on our Saddle Mountain camping trip! Saddle Mountain is about an hour west of Phoenix. We chose a Bureau of Land Management road on west side of the mountain where you're allowed to camp anywhere (a.k.a. dispersed camping, thedyrt.com/magazine/lifestyle/what-is-dispersed-camping/). These are the first pics jumping out of the car, before we set up the camp.
View of sunset from the Bureau of Land Management's Saddle Mountain Area. In US, you're allowed to camp anywhere in BLM land, and that's what we were doing here. This 35mm film image is with the new Reto Ultra Wide and Slim, with Fujifim Velvia 100 slide film.

The Day Is Gone
Put all the hurts and worries away
The sun has set
The evening is nigh
The mountains are calling
Showing off a majestic glow
So take in the view
Savor a day lived
And look forward to tomorrow}
Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one late afternoon in Colorado at bed and breakfast location stayed overnight in the Pagosa Springs. The view is looking to the northeast to ridges and peaks of the East-Central San Juan Mountains. This was at a bed-and-breakfast place I stayed overnight after exploring more of southeastern Colorado in Durango and Silverton. So after many hours of driving this day, it felt wonderful to take in a mountain view for the evening.
As for the skies above, it was as I began working on the image in post-production that I then decided to once again try out the sky replacement setting in Photoshop with this image. The sunset colors with the clouds definitely seemed appropriate for this Colorado mountain setting in what I had loved seeing. So the skies are part of the Adobe stock images in Photoshop but all else is captured with my Nikon D850 SLR camera. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 7 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.
While at the Wolf Creek Valley Overlook along the continental divide in southeastern Colorado. The setting is looking to the south down a valley with ridges and peaks of the East-Central San Juan Mountains. In composing this image, I angled myself and Nikon SLR camera, so that I could balance the valley in the image center as it led off into the horizon. I decided to keep a balanced view with the horizon as the height I was at allowed me to capture a sweeping view, looking off into the distance.
I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation in DxO PhotoLab 7. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 6 where I added a Polarization, Foliage and Pro Contrast filter for that last effect on the image captured.

The Saddle Mountains form a long ridge across Grant and Adams counties. The mountain sides have been sculpted by the ice age floods, landslides, earthquakes and weather along with a bit of intervention from man.
I got the idea for this image from this one on Flickr (www.flickr.com/photos/62976582@N00/5437838502) with the selective use of color on a black & white image. I was able to capture this setting with a train of the Canadian Pacific Railway going by one September morning during a recent trip to Alberta and Banff National Park.

This was taken while waiting for a much anticipated train visit to Morant's Curve...much anticipated! So during those minutes of waiting, I used the time as productively as I could, metering and exposing to determine a good capture given the clouds and overcast weather. What I wanted to do with this capture was take that image looking just beyond some nearby trees to the curve of the Bow River at this point. One would then see the low clouds all around the far off mountain peaks. I later converted to black & white using Silver Efex Pro 2 and worked to bring out that drama of the tonal contrast for this famous setting.
While staying at the Elk Trace Bed & Breakfast in the area around Pagosa Springs, Colorado, one Saturday morning. The setting is to the northeast in front of the main porch area with a view looking to ridges and peaks of the East-Central San Juan Mountains.
One of the many captures with a train of the Canadian Pacific Railway going by this setting of Morant's Curve. While overcast and kind of blah with muted colors that day, I was able to use a Pro Contrast CEP filter and selected color control points to bring out a much more vibrant image with color contrasts in Capture NX2. I was also able to use selected use of control points with a Low Key CEP filter and other contrast adjustments to bring out more details in the low clouds around the mountain peaks on the far side of the image in the Bow Range.
First of all the message. I am sorry I have not had time to post any images lately, and doubly sorry I have not been able to view your photos either. Been pretty difficult here lately. I hope to get the time soon and back into routine.
The other thing is that following recent rain the fungi are all sprouting, or appearing might be a better word. I have been out chasing photos and have hundreds of fantastic ones which include at least 2 unclassified ones for Australia. Two days ago I was taking photos in the rainforest and I am all the time bitten by mosquitoes which is annoying because some carry dengue fever and ross river fever. Also I get these big flies that come like marsh flies (March Flies or Horse Flies, further south). They bite and just won't get off you until you wack them. This one really hurt so I smacked it hard and then took its photo!!
It was a little under one inch long - around 20/22 nn. It is a bit mangled, sorry.
Taken from one of the many viewpoints heading to the top of Saddle Mountain on the Oregon Coast. You can see everything from the Cascade volcanoes to Portland to the Columbia River, Southern Washington, and the Pacific Ocean from up here.

With the North Head Light directly behind me, you overlook Benson Beach and the North Jetty. In a distance, you can see Saddle Mountain and the Oregon coastal range. This time of year during the winter, the Moon actually sets around 3 PM, so as the sun rises, you still have a moon to view. It was a magical morning, the high cloud vapors lingered and glowed as light hit.
