I didn't have time to see all the main events. I might regard it as a 'local' event but it was two hours away! Despite the persistent rain it warmed my heart to see kids enjoying the flat, backwards, wheelbarrow, three legged, egg and spoon and sack races, big grins on their rain streaked faces. There were many international visitors to the event and they joined in the fun too, not a health and safety nerd in sight to warn do not run on grass that might be wet.
Ladybugs' Picnic: (A Sesame Street song)
One two three
Four five six

Ladybugs
Came to the ladybugs' picnic
One two three
Four five six
Seven eight nine
Ten eleven twelve
And they all played games
At the ladybugs' picnic
They had twelve sacks so they ran sack races
They fell on their backs and they fell on their faces
The ladybugs 12
At the ladybugs' picnic
They played jump rope but the rope it broke
So they just sat around telling knock-knock jokes

Ten eleven twelve
And they chatted away
At the ladybugs' picnic
They talked about the high price of furniture and rugs
And fire insurance for ladybugs

Sack races, like many other games are traditionally played out in every Plaza.... in every town of Mexico, on the evening of “El Grito”, the Cry of Independence, 15 of September!!
Ajijic Plaza, Mexico - this year the Fiestas are on a Grand scale, as Mexico is commemorating the Bicentennial of its Independence movement and the Centennial of its Revolution!!
Also begannen sie ihren Wettkampf. Nun ja, am Ende verlor Mini den Wettbewerb. Danbo gewann tatsächlich. Aber nur, weil Mini's Hüpfsack zu groß für ihn war. Anderfalls hätte er ganz sicher gewonnen, glaube ich.
Today Mini challenged Danbo by saying Danbo would never win against him in sack racing. Danbo said: "I'm sure, I'll win. I can make longer jumps." So they started their race. Well, in the end Mini lost this challenge. Danbo really won. But just because Mini's sack was too large for him. Otherwise he had surely won, I guess.
Note on slide indicates that the photo was taken at a Milton Bradley Company picnic. Slide was found on eBay.
Jumpin,

My daughters (green) 4th birthday party. She invited 3 'best friends' for the day and as you can see from this candid, they had a lot of fun!!

The young ones are kept busy all day with games...
I spent Canada Day at the 106th Annual Millarville Races, just south of Calgary, definitely worth the drive down...
Pleasant Hill Elementary staff picked a sunny, warm day to engage students in games and contests on the playground. In addition to exercising their bodies, students also tried on the role of animal protectors. Bunnies decided the Pleasant Hill Elementary school playground was a great place to dig a burrow. Students watched the tiny, sleeping twins while a teacher found a cone, an old sled, and a sharpie to mark the spot.

Wow, what a busy weekend filled with shooting and editing - but I've loved it! The third session was yesterday and it went wonderfully! It was hectic - many different combinations of 5 kids to shoot, doing lots of different activities - but again we were pleased with the results :)
Some more lined up this week, and a wedding on Saturday. It's all go. I really hope things keep going as well for us!
I have several shots of the sack races, and love them all! The naturalness of their expressions does it for me - happiness :) This one isn't actually selective colour - just saturation taken down to about 2% - because the sacks were really bright, they kept just a hint of their colour.
