22.11.97 Mighty Moguls after their dramatic ascent of the Lickey Incline there was a possibility that the Pathfinder tour with the Moguls 7325 and 2968 could cross with black five 44767 on Days Out tour running from Tyseley back to Crewe with both around Walsall about 3.00pm. First heard the black five up the grade from Walsall and then could see the Moguls approaching. Apart from on the S&C this was a first.

I can still feel the chill of waiting for this freight at Ryecroft Junction on 7th January 1977. It must be around mid-morning, and the encrusted frost still coats the sleepers while the lingering mist ensured that the temperature will not rise much above freezing all day. The scene also graphically shows Ryecroft Junction as it was, with the branch to Birchills Power Statiom and Cannock Chase Line diverging to the left. For the man sound in body and serene of mind there is no such thing as bad weather; every sky has its beauty, and storms which whip the blood do but make it pulse more vigorously.

This is Walsall station on a gloomy day in the mid 1960's a DMU is waiting to leave for Dudley and and electric class 304 is stabled in a siding on the far right. I can see no evidence of OHL equipment, was the class 304 brought in by diesel?

The DMU is a Gloucester RC & W class 100, it was allocated to Walsall (Ryecroft) and has the 2G code painted on the buffer beam, this code was first used in September 1963.

The goods yard has now been built over, the station has had a major re-build and both units are long scrapped.

Hemington, just east of Castle Donington, is a location that oddly enough I haven't visited before, well I would have gone when the power station was in full action but that coincided with 'stay at home' messages. The outbound train off the East Midlands Gateway branch ran early, so I made do with a Leeds - Southampton Freightliner. On the left is the base of 'I Need a Funfair', the company for all your funfair needs.

Hemington, just east of Castle Donington, is a location that oddly enough I haven't visited before. This view was favoured in the late 20th century, the sun is 3/4 in the mornings and instead of the flat roof line of Marks & Spencers warehouse, you had the cooling towers of Castle Donington Power Station. 6D44 Bescot - Toton departmental.
