'Runway' is a macro photograph of a leaf on a light box. The title was inspired by a recent flight.

“Class is an aura of confidence that is being sure without being cocky. Class has nothing to do with money. Class never runs scared. It is self-discipline and self-knowledge. It's the sure-footedness that comes with having proved you can meet life. ”

― Ann Landers

Wow, what a weekend? I’m glad I caught some sunlight yesterday morning! I had my hopes high for sure but it is what it is. So let’s stick with the same theme here for today. This is from one of the previous storms here in Chicago that actually turned out good at the end? What do you think?

A corridor of lights synchronized to the speed of sound

The Sonic Runway is a light-art installation that converts audio signals into patterns of light that shoot down a corridor of LED lined arches at the speed of sound.

At the front of the Sonic Runway, the observers see musical sound waves rippling away from them. Walking down the corridor, sound and light are always in sync. Looking back from the far end, walkers can see the sound waves coming at them, and hear the music as the pattern reaches them.

We hadn’t really spent much time in North Point on our previous trips, so it was nice to have a little wander. It’s not the most interesting area and annoyingly, the nice bit on the waterfront was closed off for construction.

I’m a sucker for any kind of raised position though and a pedestrian walkway gave me a great viewpoint down King’s Road. A few cars drove beneath us as a ding ding went past. They’re such sweet vehicles.

I know, I know. Hong Kong, again! I’m not wealthy- I just keep spending all my money on going there. I don’t think they say ‘Fourth Times the Charm’ but this trip was just that - a success. For almost the entire time I kept my mental health issues at bay. It was a good trip. After three disasters - It is really nice to say that.

I swear, you don't realize just how small a goose's head is until

they're in flight.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone.

In 2000, the runway was again extended, this time to 2,781 m (9,124 ft). As landfill was not a realistic option, the extension was built on a platform, partly over the ocean, supported by 180 columns, each about 70 m (230 ft) tall. The runway extension was conducted by the Brazilian construction company Andrade Gutierrez and is recognized worldwide as one of the most difficult to achieve due to the type of terrain and orography.

Its innovative solution allowed Funchal to receive the Outstanding Structure Award in 2004 by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering, which aims at recognizing the most remarkable, innovative, creative, or otherwise stimulating structure completed within the last few years.
