The coast of Zeeland is definitely a very inspiring place for me to go out for a shoot. I took this photo of the stone coastline with the wave breakers runnning into the water on a cold January afternoon, just after sunset.

Thank you for looking!

My first post of the year is one of the most challanging panoramas I shot so far. It is my first tracked panorama shot at 70mm focal length and was captured in one of my favorite places, at the Tschuggen Observatory in Arosa, Switzerland. Despite the rather narrow final field of view, it consists of 18 panels for the foreground and 4 panels for the sky.

Capturing the set of exposures in freezing-25°C was quite an ordeal for me and my equipment. Eyeballing the overlap and moving the camera on my frozen up ballhead and with my numb fingers proved almost impossible and these equipment problems made my buy a good panorama head a few weeks later…

Processing the panorama proved to be tough on my computer as well. The photoshop file of the 200 megapixel panorama has whopping 31GB, but the resolution and detail I recorded in the sky is amazing.

The Orion, Runnning Man, Flame and Horsehead nebulas are beautifully resolved and the hydrogen alpha nebulosities in the region are standing out nicely: Barnards Loop, the Meissa Region, the Rosette Nebula, the Seagull Nebula and the Christmas Tree Cluster are really popping.

haha sorry another cat photo :D

but today was amazing... we had another 50 centimeters of fresh snow. I went running in the morning and had to run on the main road because runnning in the field or on the sidewalk was almost impossible... the garden was full of snow and Bella and i walked outside.. I wanted to take some photos but she was hidden so well that I could only capture half of her face :D

"It" is the water hole and the water inside. The baby elephants were lumbering along with the older elephants until they saw the water and then they started to run. You can see how barren and dusty it was around the hole and how excited a couple of the little ones were. There was pure glee in their eyes!

Back when I was younger the Conway Scenic Railroad was a strictly seasonal operetion and would largely shut down during the winter months. In recent years however it has become a year round operation running trains to Conway all winter long and for the first time this winter running trains through Crawford Notch in the snow. Not wanting to miss out on the chance for some snowy winter shots along the old Mountain Sub I made the trip up on the long President's Day weekend to try for some snowy images.

Alas the Saturday trip featured just CSRR 255 solo with five cars meaning the return trip which is the better chase photographically would be long hood forward which just didn't interest me. Regardless, I did make the trip up through the Notch for a few signature shots on the westbound trip. Having reached the at the end of their run at MP 85 on the former Maine Central Mountain Subdivision 255 has cut away and is runnning around her train on the siding beneath the watchful stoney gaze of Elephant Head seen beyond and immediately above the coaches. At 1900 ft Crawford depot is the summit of the line, and they have climbed some 1400 ft in the 25 miles since leaving North Conway grades of up to 2.2%.

This unit is right at home here having been built in November 1966 for the Maine Central Railroad as part of an order of 13 of the model which were the first batch of second generation diesel locomotives purchased by the road. She came to Conway Scenic in 2022 and still wears her Vermont Rail System red paint from her nearly two decade second career as Clarendon & Pittsford 203 after having being sold by MEC successor Guilford Transportation in the early 1990s.

I was holding my camera, running after this piegoen, and he was damn scared but didn't want to fly away. I flashed this shot and he stayed there...
