What better way to welcome in 2023 than pop down to Gosport & Fareham to enjoy The Provincial Society's 'Ale & Ride' running day! Twelve buses took part operating 13 return journeys via Stubbington and Titchfield calling at 8 pubs along the way.

The Stratford 47 Group Class 47580 ticks away on the naughty step at Dereham MNR after the oil sump failed and eventually broke on the first day off it’s two day running day to help celebrate the Queens platinum Jubilee. 47580 had entered the TRSMD Shed at the MNR a few months ago to have repairs made to the locomotive by the T&RSMD team and then had a nice little spruce up on the ends, including the queens chosen colour painted on the nameplate and buffer beams.
Saturday 25th April 2009 – North Somerset Coaches 40th Anniversary
To celebrate the anniversary of the big 40, NSC’s owner our very own Mr Dave Fricker (possibly the youngest operator in the UK!), arranged his second running day using various vehicles from Mike Walker & Martin Curtis excellent collection, The Devon & Dorset Group, The South-West Preservation Group and various other sources.
I have been lucky enough to attend both of Dave’s excellent running days, and am lucky enough to count Dave as a friend and fellow bus preservationist. A big thanks must go the vehicle owners, drivers, controllers, enthusiasts and the general travelling public for making this small event go like clockwork (Ish ;-).
I took my Tiger to the event as a possible spare, a “Just in case” vehicle. Luckily enough she was not needed but was used to shuttle the crews from the Southfields Road depot to Stock Way in Nailsea (bus stops used for departures).
I had a fantastic day, riding on and driving excellent vehicles. It was also a chance to catch up with the SWPG’s very good friends from the D&DG (Devon & Dorset Group), so to Woody, Graeme, Jo & of course Mr Bennett, thanks for making it a terrific day with great company!
I finally got to drive 1159 (AFJ766T), the only one of Terry B’s VR’s that I had not driven before today, and I must say that she is a stunning vehicle. The running day only operated over three routes, but the routes chosen were just right and any more and I think young Mr Fricker would have been tearing his hair out ;-)
Well done Dave, Mike and all others at North Somerset Coaches for “Another” cracking day, here’s to Next Year (LOL).
The chosen Charity for all the donations is to be the “Wraxall Childrens Hospice”, a very worthwhile cause.
The second half of my spare duty, consisted of a trip back up to France Lynch but this time with the Stroud RE Groups Bristol VR. This VR was the last Double Decker delivered to Stroud Garage in the days when it was Stroud Valleys, and before Stagecoach got involved.
Having previously driven this route up to France Lynch with an RE coach in the morning, and knowing that there is a 1 in 6 hill on this route, I invited my Good Friend Terry Bennett to do the outbound (Uphill) journey, whilst I did the nice easy return (LOL). This trip means that I have now officially driven every vehicle owned by the Stroud RE Group out on service.
This has to go down as one of the better VR's that I have ever driven and is a lot more responsive than mine???
Again this picture is taken in the very picturesque village of France Lynch, high up in the Cotswolds and a village that offers some fantastic views.
New Year's Day comes around quickly enough, and where better to spend it than Winchester? This is when the Friends of King Alfred Buses host an annual running day for their preserved vehicles and and a myriad of guest buses to boot. Here, Bristol RELL6G TRU947J in Wilts & Dorset dual-purpose livery does the honours.

Ex Go Ahead London PVL167 does fly by duties on the 93 Running Day on the 9th October 2021. Seen here in its smart Go-Coach livery. Unfortunately this bus won’t see life no further with Go Coach wanting to dispose of this beauty.
The Southampton & District Transport Heritage Trust provided today's entertainment in the form of a Farewell to Southampton's Red Buses running day. With the busy hub in Pound Tree Road, there were 3 routes to sample using 10 preserved former Southampton buses ranging from a 1951 Guy Arab III to a 1999 Dennis Dart. A great day out and a chance to catch up with a great many people!!

Arriving at the start of day 2 of the Museum of Transport's Selnec 25 event, among a crowd of interested spotters. MTL Manchester's then traffic manager, Alan Johnson, is at the wheel.
Of course, at this time MTL were involved in heated competition with both the GM companies. However, I don't think anybody from Queens Road garage next door sneaked out and let down the tyres while no-one was looking...
