Bee balm (Mondarda didyma) is a native mint that is strongly dependent on ruby-throated hummingbirds for pollination. Note the strategic placement of the anthers and pistils.

Possibly the friskiest wire haired terrier i have ever met, Ruby does an excellent impersonation of a seat cushion.

This was one of my first test pictures with the 20mm pancake, a fine bit of kit but one that requires more thought than i'm used to!

The ruby-throated hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) is a species of hummingbird that generally spends the winter in Central America, Mexico, and Florida, and migrates to Eastern North America for the summer to breed. It is by far the most common hummingbird seen east of the Mississippi River in North America.

This hummingbird is from 7 to 9 cm (2.8 to 3.5 in) long and has an 8 to 11 cm (3.1 to 4.3 in) wingspan. Weight can range from 2 to 6 g (0.071 to 0.212 oz), with males averaging 3.4 g (0.12 oz) against the slightly larger female which averages 3.8 g (0.13 oz).[2][3] Adults are metallic green above and greyish white below, with near-black wings. Their bill, at up to 2 cm (0.79 in), is long, straight, and very slender. As in all hummingbirds, the toes and feet of this species are quite small, with a middle toe of around 0.6 cm (0.24 in) and a tarsus of approximately 0.4 cm (0.16 in). The ruby-throated hummingbird can only shuffle if it wants to move along a branch, though it can scratch its head and neck with its feet

These festive earrings blend holiday themed colors with the help of Ruby and Peridot. The Ruby is an unpolished, irregularly facet, rough-cut slab and it's sandwiched by faceted Peridot rondelles. The Ruby slabs are about 16mm across and up to 5mm at the thickest point across.

This is Ruby, the only survivor out of a litter of 4. All of them had roundworm and I took her and a remaining sibling to the vet's office, I guess I was a little too late, her brother died after bringing him home to the vet, but even when Ruby had a cold and was fighting off roundworm and anemia from all the fleas she had...she still played with Mama.

First of all, sorry I have been absent from Flickr for so long and thank you for your recent kind comments and messages. They are much appreciated! I am in the process of catching up on my contacts and if I haven’t dropped by your photostream recently, then I will do very shortly!

I made this portrait image purely as a quick test shot for my new Nikon prime 35mm f/1.8 lens. However I quite liked the resulting shot and realized that I had not yet introduced you to our shy, gentle, beautiful, greyhound, Ruby. Ruby is a rescued racer, 12 years young and she has ‘owned us’ for 8 years! Apart from some nerve damage in her leg, she is not doing too badly for her advancing age. In this shot I chose to use a wide aperture to just draw attention to her eye, letting her long nose fall away slightly.
