I spotted this on KindredCocktails and was created to a Mr. Mike Brinza 1 oz Bourbon @woodinvillewhiskeyco 1 oz Campari (subbed in @royalvallet Granada-Vallet) 1 oz Bonal Gentiane Quina Stirred with ice. (OMG!!)) and my pal Mark texted me this cocktail recipe because he knows it has many things I adore. 1. Amargo-Vallet 2. Bananas 3. Rye 4. Funky Rum This recipe appeared on #VinePair and was credited to Evan Hosaka 1.25 oz. Rye (@woodinvillewhiskeyco ) 0.75 oz. Rum (they called for Clement 10 yr Rhum Agricole. I went @lamaisonandvelier Clairin Vaval Haitian Rum!) 0.50 oz. creme de banana 0.25 oz. @royalvallet Amargo-Vallet Stir with ice. Strain onto handsome ice cube in handsome @amoryamargo glass. Express and garnish with lemon peel. Pretty fun. I think the wild card in this cocktail is most definitely the rum. Sunday Cocktail Hour: Two Negronis #cocktailrobot -•- Ugh. I’m exhausted by the “New Normal” as a phrase, but I suppose I should get used to it. Because it’s the new normal. We made two negronis tonight while having one of those virtual cocktail hours. It was fun. Let’s organize things more often. The first one as tequila - Volcan Blanco. The second one as the bonkers Paranubes Oaxacan rum. Obviously a Spanish speaking theme here. Easy recipe. -•- 1 ounce @royalvallet Grenada-Vallet (or Campari if you want to do something not from Mexico) 1 ounce Vermouth (Casa Mariol Vermut from Spain) 1 ounce of either Volcan or Paranubes. -•- Stir with ice. Monday Cocktail Hour (Part2): Mr. Pink #cocktailrobot -•- I spent 3,000 hours at the DMV today. I’m not exaggerating. Somehow, even though there are 24 hours in a day, I spent 3,000 of them at the DMV. That said, everyone was very nice. Afterwards I went and bought a bottle of rum. I do love these Plantation rums - today I grabbed a bottle of the @plantation.rum Original Dark Double Aged Rum. That’s a mouthful. -•- 2 oz. rum (see above) 0.5 oz. fresh lime juice 0.25oz. Campari (subbed @royalvallet Grenada-Vallet) 0.25 oz. pineapple juice 0.25 oz. simple syrup (1:1) 1 fresh egg white (subbed aqua faba) -•- Dry shake (i.e. without ice). Then add ice and shake and shake. Strain. Drop some bitters in the foam if feeling snazzy. This recipe was spotted on Imbibe and is credited to Troy Tingling, @therumhouse, New York City. A lot of the elements get lost here apart from the chartreuse - which honestly is all I can taste (and I like chartreuse). I might tone the green down. This might be (IMHO) one of the most underrated drinks about there. It’s another one of those Venn diagrams of delicious with “me” in the center.

 

I made some tweaks.

 

@royalvallet Grenada Vallet played the role of Campari. From Mexico City, this is a nice red bitter amaro that plays well with everyone.

 

Rum, usually funk-ish Jamaican, today played by the Mexican rum Charaní. This is an unusual bottle because I can find almost nothing about it. I bought it in a small shop in Mexico City.

We know the basics: It’s a Charanda - i.e. a sugar cane distillate from the area of Michoacan, Mexico. Un-aged.

 

Today’s Orgeat is the fun (and shelf-stable) @lorgeat created by @JenBakes - there is a fun story involving my Lovely Wife™ carrying the bottle home after dinner.

 

Orange Curaçao is played by the superior alternative (again, IMHO) @rhumclement Creole Shrubb. Please grab a bottle of this - it’s a way more interesting alternative to (tedious) Orange Curaçao.

 

Lime Juice? Just normal limes 😊

 

1.50 oz. Campari

0.75 oz. Rum

0.50 oz. Curaçao

0.75 oz. Orgeat

1.00 oz. Lime Juice

 

Shake! Strain over smashed up ice.

 

(I’m going to start a separate account where I rag on orange curaçao and triple-sec the whole time. You’ll be like, “this guy has some real issues with this stuff”.)

I had played with this cocktail a while ago and wanted to revisit - the big change was swapping Aperol for the amazing Granada-Vallet. Here we are.

 

1.50 oz Jamaican run (#Hampden 8!)

0.50 oz Fernet Branca (used @royalvallet Fernet)

0.75 oz honey syrup

0.75 oz lime juice

 

Shake with ice. Double strain.

 

Perfect.

Cocktail Hour: The Fernet Cocktail

While browsing the Savoy Cocktail book this morning, I saw this cocktail with Fernet-Branca and made a note to make it tonight.

 

So, I followed through. Taskmaster + Cocktail = Friday!

 

Realize this is supposed to be a ‘reviver’ style cocktail, but I doubled the recipe so it was a more proper size. Maybe I’m bonkers.

 

1.00 oz. Gin @mulholland.spirits

0.50 oz. Fernet (@royalvallet Fernet-Vallet)

0.50 oz. Vermouth (Cochi Torino)

 

Stirred with ice (although the Savoy says shake).
