So while board we decided to go where board people go, Boise! No, this is not in Boise, but on the way back we went through the Columbia River Gorge. Because we were approaching the site form a direction we have never seen, it took us to this overlook that I never knew existed. Its out past The Dalles. The road is what caught our attention first. While you are on the road you don't quite notice its eccentricities, but from the top its quite... whimsical. I tried to capture that, and the view, and the family car there on the bluff (yes, its small). While processing the panorama I felt it kept getting better and better so I thought it was worth a post on this site (I have a family site that gets my b-stock images).

Left the house at 2:00am to get here for sunrise at 5:30am.. Glad the conditions cooperated :)
Back to the shots that actually take some dedication to get. I have been out here several times trying to get a decent sunrise with no wind. I guess I could have settled for a mid-day shot with blurry flowers, but I prefer something like this, and I'll leave the blurry shots to the lazy photographers out there :)

I have been out to Rowena and the flowers are less than impressive this year. This is a shot from last year...
Happy 1st day of spring !! Looking foreward to shoot more wildflowers this year ! Thank you for stopping by !
Wildflowers at sunrise, McCall Wilderness Preserve, Columbia River Gorge, Oregon. The Lupine are still not in full bloom (maybe another week), but it's still looking pretty nice up here right now. The slight breeze was making it a bit of a challenge...
***NOTE***
I have replaced this image with a more realistic looking scene (not as bright, and better white balance) This is pretty much what it looked like while standing there :)

I didn't get out much for the wildflowers this spring, I spent most of my time shooting along the coast. I only came home with a couple decent shots of the wildflowers this year. This was one of them. Taken from Rowena Crest out on the East end of the Gorge at sunrise.

This is an older photo that I have recently re-processed with new techniques I have learned over the last year or so.. It was a very nice sunrise, but I also processed it darker to intensify the saturation in the sky.

Rowena Crest Viewpoint is a paved overlook located near the top of the high bluffs on the south side of the Columbia River. It offers magnificent views of the Columbia River Gorge, Oregon.
You can see Rt 84 that travels along the river.
With three EMDs on the head end, a westbound Union Pacific manifest rolls through Rowena, OR. The entire train can be seen snaking along the Columbia River in the background.
There is a road that traverses along the Columbia River Gorge on the Oregon side that creates this horseshoe bend. Laci and I went to the top of that area to catch this viewpoint last year.

Wildflowers (Balsamroot & Lupine) along the Plateau Trail in the Columbia River Gorge near Mosier, Oregon.
Friday night after work, Tyler and I headed out toward the gorge, with the intention of catching a sunset a Rowena and then heading to the Stonehenge monument.
We got there with just enough time to find some good foreground for the sunset which was developing. Unfortunately, the flowers aren't at their prime yet and it took a little bit to find some good ones. This was a lovely little batch, that I came across with just enough time to nail down my composition before a lovely sunset.
