Storia.
Il rifugio è posizionato nella parte centrale dell’Altopiano delle Pale di S. Martino ed è stato costruito nel 1889 su progetto dell'ingegnere Annibale.
Nel 1896 venne ampliato. Il crescente interesse per il mondo dell'alpinismo spinse la S.A.T. a prendere in considerazione il progetto della costruzione di un edificio-albergo. Il progetto venne, però, abbandonato a causa dell'inizio della grande guerra da cui il rifugio ne uscì incendiato.
Il rifugio venne ripristinato e successivamente ampliato nel 1931 fino a poter ospitare 40 persone. La seconda guerra mondiale ebbe gli stessi effetti sul rifugio che venne incendiato, per rappresaglia, dai tedeschi.
Ricostruito nel 1952, fu intitolato a Giovanni Pedrotti.

È accessibile da San Martino di Castrozza mediante impianto di risalita, dalla Val Canali - Primiero attraversando il Passo di Ball o il Passo Canali, da Gares via Orrido delle Comelle e dal rifugio Mulaz via Passo delle Farangole.

The Rosette Nebula (also known as Caldwell 49) is an H II region located near one end of a giant molecular cloud in the Monoceros region of the Milky Way Galaxy. The open cluster NGC 2244 (Caldwell 50) is closely associated with the nebulosity, the stars of the cluster having been formed from the nebula's matter. (Wikipedia)

Living so close to Haytor it is always hard to resist capturing it. The other morning before work we had a lot of haze, from the air mass from Europe, and usually, I find it reduces the light intensity and clarity. It can also, however, cut out the blue wavelengths of light leading to red skies after sunrise.
These conditions are very similar to those I captured on my first ever sunrise of Haytor in 2013 shortly after started landscape photography. It seemed only fitting as my wife and I are now (hopefully) very close to moving to Stirlingshire in Scotland. I will certainly miss Haytor and the surrounding tors very much.
