Carving the "Rose" key woodblock. The drawing was made directly onto a block of 3/4 birch plywood. The image was carved in low relief with hand-held chisels and knives.
The "RUBY RED ROSE" block will be rolled up with ink and printed onto archival paper in a limited run of 100 prints or so.

Shot just after finishing the drawing of this new 'Rose'. To be a color woodcut print on Kitakata. Probably an edition of 100.
Now that the drawing is completed, we'll carve the block in low relief for printing. This is done by hand, with hand-held chisels and knives. The block will than be rolled up with ink (in this case, likely a colored ink) and printed onto archival paper through a printing press.

I drew this with Kayla in mind, since I know she loves roses. :) We went after work and got me a sketch pad and some pencils and a drawing pen yesterday. It's amazing how something so simple could make someone so happy! I never thought I'd be so excited to buy a pencil. lol!
I haven't slept all week and these damn animals are getting on my very last nerve. I love them, but my goodness...they've kept us up every night this week. So, yeah, me and focusing on just about anything but keeping my eyes open will be a no go for today. :(
At least it's Thursday...
Oh, and PS: sorry about the crappy quality, it is a cell phone pic because I didn't have it in me to do anything better this morning.
