Saturday Self Challenge: Marbled

I missed the perfect photo opportunity this week because I hadn't read the theme in time, so this is the follow up and hoping that the water has a sufficiently marbled surface.

Seeing the rope swing hanging there, I couldn't help but adapt the title from "Bridge over troubled waters"

Swimming is dangerous with the river close to bankfull discharge, and ropes used to swing out further from the bank for an exciting drop now hang limply from their host trees. This tree also appears in the aerial picture next back.

I grew up along the ocean in Northern California and now live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Range. As beautiful as it is here, my heart still longs for a shoreline and an endless horizon.

This evening I learned of the passing of a dear friend. At times like these, I would find solace in the cadence of the waves and the freshness of a moist salty sea breeze. Perhaps today I will journey out to the river and listen to the white noise of the running rapids.

RIP PW.

Even though the canal has stopped flowing and children are now in school, this lonely little tire got some company today when I took it for a little spin.

These shots were particularly hard but surprisingly easy once I worked out my setting. All I had to do was press the shutter button at the right time.

Again the black and white edit is much better than the original.

Spending time with the circus guys I learned that there were 6 generations of performers. So I guess that saying,"it's in their blood' definitely applies .

*I will be uploading more circus shots so I can put in my album. Please don't feel the need to comment on all the Circus spam ;)

Memories of yesterday

they were a moment in time

A warm summer's breeze

the smell of fresh air

a dog barks, the birds sing

amidst the ...echoes of laughter.

A bridge over the River Welland near Uffington and Bainton.

As noted by fulvue this appears to be an army Bailey Bridge. I have since learned that the local fishing hole is called "The Bailey Bridge Pit" but that's all the info I can find.

Wow, I can't believe it was 6 years ago when I took this image. Amazing how quickly time is flying.

I wonder if my rope's still hanging from the tree

By the standing pool where you drank me

And filled me full of thirsty love

A rope swing over the River Lea in the village of Madeley, Staffordshire. A favourite place for the local kids during hot summer days.

A well warn rope swing suspends above the peaceful flow of the river, enticing all who seek the cool refreshing waters.

I feel like there is something about a rope swing at sunset into the river that really feels like summer. I shot this with a vintage Vivitar 24mm lens made for Canon fd mount. I accentuated the classic look that the lens produced. Sony a7r, Vivitar 24mm f2,8 fd mount.

The slough doesn't go much deeper than just beyond the view here, but it only takes a few feet in from the river to feel as if you are a thousand miles and a million years away...
