This is a new shoot from our Fireglow Euphorbia. It goes berserk every year, and floods the bed with foliage, so at the end of the year it has a bit of 'thinning' on the rootwork. It spreads by increasing it's root system, hence the underground pruning - LoL. The sap is caustic, so pruning the plant back from the lawns needs care.
The leaves are Aquilegia foliage, another plant that is superb at populating your garden space.
