Traditional Kyoto houses with afternoon shadows, Fushimi district.

The small village of Phikardou which I first visited in the summer of 1976, population then 3-4 old people. I chanced upon it when I was researching for my thesis on the Vernacular Architecture of Cyprus.

It has now become a must place to visit and even boasts a restaurant serving authentic local dishes. It's good to note that most of the 30 or so houses have since been refurbished even if it's only for weekend visits by owners that work further down in the city.

The floodlight, bottom left is pointed towards the church belltower and the galvamized pipes offer support to the overhead electrical mains cables.

Looking up at Rothenburg ob der Tauber, one the best-preserved medieval cities in Germany and undoubtedly one of the prettiest towns on the Romantic Road.

I am going to be completely honest with you - I think it's a rook, but I'm not sure.

And no, I wasn't very close at all - this is zoomed in when the bird was sitting on a low roof a few metres from me, on a small temple next to Sensō-ji.

Photos taken in towns in the Sierra of Madrid last weekend.

Bologna "la Rossa" ("the Red", an epithet evidently due to more than its left-leaning politics) seen from the roof of the medieval tower Torre Prendiparte.

The tower, bastion and symbol of power of the Prendiparte family in the Middle Ages, is still today private property. It is currently rent as an exclusive bed-and-breakfast residence for no more than one couple of guests at a time. Entrance hall, bedroom, kitchen, dining room and other (narrow) spaces are connected by steep stairs in a vertiginous vertical sequence, finally leading to the rooftop panoramic terrace 60 meters above ground.

The formal (never used) gate to the Tenju-an sub-temple of Nanzen-ji, Kyoto. Lovely 1300's gravel and stone path on the other side of the door. Hasselblad X1D.

This is a view on St. Nicholas Church in Lesser Town. The view did not change much, except the solar panels were not there 100 or 200 years ago. I do take photos of tourist spots and scenes associated with tourism, but seldom upload these. I know that there are much better photographers, who will have more success with presenting these views.

Both houses are done, on is at display at the store,

Ours will add some details, the first side on this roof took about 5 hours, no molds all cut by hand.

I am a morning person and I love sunrises!

So glad its Saturday........it has been another busy week.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Meersburg rooftops. I don't think the room with the windows we see would get much light.

Red brick chimneys on a building on the Holkham Estate in Norfolk.

The Alblasserwaard is a country region in Holland in the south-east of the Dutch province ‘Zuid-Holland’. It also forms the southern part of the ‘Groene Hart’ (Green Heart) national landscape. It is a low-lying, thinly populated polder area that is surrounded by rivers and canals. The Alblasserwaard is crossed by ditches, canals and two small rivers: the Alblas and the Giessen. In the lowest, most western point of the Alblasserwaard, you will find the village of Kinderdijk, where 19 authentic, iconic windmills grace the polder landscape…
